Surprise: Nasse to Make ARCA East Debut at New Smyrna

As the ARCA Menards Series East season opener at New Smyrna Speedway (FL) closes in, entries continue to be added Monday’s race during the World Series of Asphalt Stock Car Racing (FL).

One of the latest additions is Stephen Nasse, the 2018 World Series Super Late Model champion who will be making his ARCA debut with Jett Motorsports.

Nasse is looking forward to the chance to drive a Stock Car for the same team where he has enjoyed considerable Super Late Model success in recent years, including wins in the Short Track U.S. Nationals and the Winchester 400.

“It feels really good to get out here and get my first ARCA race under my belt,” Nasse told Speed51. “I’ve never been in one of these cars before, it’s going to be a little bit different.  Pat Jett called me about a week ago asking if I could run this car for them, try it out.  They’re new to the ARCA Series and want to get some good finishes, and they believe I can do a good job here at New Smyrna for them.”

ARCA Menards Series East teams were at New Smyrna on Sunday to practice ahead of Monday’s 175-lap race. Nasse looked forward to getting on track and seeing how the heavier car would fare on a hot, slick race track.

“We’ll see how it goes. It should be a good day.  It’s a little hot today, but you’ve got the breeze. The track will probably be a little slick.  It should be fun.”

While it is Nasse’s first experience in an ARCA car, he has driven heavier stock cars before. However, a considerable amount of time has passed since his last appearance in such a car, dating back to the Pro Cup days.

“It’s my first time being in an ARCA car, so it’s going to be an experience,” Nasse said.  “The only thing I’ve driven close to this heavy was a Pro Cup car, and it’s been quite a few years since then.  I’m looking forward to getting in it, seeing how it feels.

“I definitely have to enter the corner a little different, add a little more brake and probably a little more wheel, I would assume.  We’ll see how it goes.”

Speed51 will have Trackside Now coverage throughout the World Series, including Monday’s ARCA Menards Series East season opener.  Monday’s racing also includes the first night of competition for the Tour-type Modifieds at New Smyrna.
