Surviving a last corner slide job maneuver in dramatic fashion, Northeast standout Anthony Perrego was forced to outlast veteran Craig Von Dohren en route to securing a $6,000 reward and a customized ‘Blast at the Beach’ surfboard following the marquee event for the Bob Hilbert Sportswear Short Track Super Series Velocita South Region at Georgetown Speedway on Tuesday.

Perrego, 24, inherited the lead — and the eventual win — following a mishap from Von Dohren, who led the most circuits in the 35-lap feature, with just a few laps remaining and hustled his No. 44 Big Block Modified through to the checkers first under the weeknight lights at the Georgetown, Delaware venue.

“We were just hanging there in second,” Perrego explained in the winner’s circle. “Craig [Von Dohren] went off the banking and from there I knew I just had to keep it straight. Lapped traffic was a factor in the end, but I was able to turn it down off turn four on the last lap and [beat him to the line].

For Perrego, the triumph marked his fifth in Short Track Super Series competition and his first while competing in the competitive Big-Block/Small-Block Modified division this season.

“We’ve won a race here at Georgetown before, but it wasn’t a Short Track Super Series event,” Perrego added. “Our team’s notebook is just working well right now. I really just can’t thank everyone on this team enough.”

A dejected Von Dohren completed the intense feature in the runner-up position, disallowing him once again from earning an elusive first win in Short Track Super Series action.

“Yeah, I just jumped the cushion over there,” Von Dohren expressed. “It happens. Just hammer down racing, I guess.

Duane Howard, David VanHorn and Ryan Watt completed the top five positions in the feature, which will be broadcast on Speed51’s Short Track America on MAVTV.  The tape-delayed broadcast will first air on Wednesday, October 10 at 7 p.m. ET with additional airing to follow.
