The 2020 Brandon Ford Wheel Man Racing Series season rolled through 4-17 Southern Speedway Saturday night where fans were treated to a spectacular show as fan favorite, Brooke Storer drove through the field to pick up her third official Wheel Man Series trophy of the year.
“It’s great. Starting 13th and coming up to first, and I think taking the lead with 11 to go. The car was great. Jason Boyd did an amazing job, and I couldn’t be happier that York Home Comforts and Air One Heating and Cooling came onboard for this one,” Storer told Speed51 post race. “Hopefully we made them proud because that was a tough one that’s for sure. None of these Wheel Man races are easy, but that was one I really had to fight for.
“We had a disappointing finish to one of these Wheel Man Series races in July,” Storer continued. “So we’re here to qualify on the pole and win races each weekend and that’s exactly what we’re going to do for the rest of the three races remaining.”
Former series champion Jesse Henley followed Storer through the field to finish second on the evening.
“It was a good run. We went to work and changed a bunch of stuff. Changed the whole program around really,” said Henley. “We learned some things. I think we’ll definitely be better next time we come here. I had a long run car. I didn’t really have anything for the short run. The longer it ran the better the car got. My fastest lap was like 46 or 47. So that’s a plus. But we gotta get it to fire off just a little bit better.”
Kevin Macy finished third on the evening after making contact with Adam Briggs late in the race to send it into a green-white-checkered finish.
“In qualifying we messed up a little bit and got tight, so we made a couple of adjustments,” said Macy. “So during the race I didn’t know what to expect. But it was good. It shocked me. So we’re happy to have a good run for once.”
“We were running behind the 14 car, he got loose off of two and I got underneath him, and he ran me down the middle of the back straightaway, and we got back together in three and four. He didn’t let me run my arc like normal or anything. He just run me like I wasn’t even there and I guess I was the one that doored him apparently.”
Briggs, who led the majority of the race leading up to that point, was brief in his response.
“We ran side-by-side, he roughed us up, and we roughed him up a little bit more,” said Briggs. “We got turned around, tempers flared, and we got him back on the frontstretch.”
