In today’s racing world, becoming a star takes more than just on-track performance. Just like the high component braking systems and components offered by StopTech, it takes the full package. Part of that package involves creativity and ability to interact with fans on social media.
With that in mind, Speed51.com has teamed up with StopTech to recognize a “Social Star” each month during the 2019 racing season.
Usually, the StopTech Social Star of the Month is a race car driver who makes people take notice with a bold or funny social media post. This month, however, the honor goes to a race track making a big announcement that had race fans and drivers alike buzzing with anticipation.
On May 28, Martinsville Speedway (VA) posted a tweet that quickly had everyone talking, especially fans of the ground-pounding Modifieds.
May 8, 2020: They’re back!
— Martinsville Speedway (@MartinsvilleSwy) May 28, 2019
The news of the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour’s return to the famed paperclip was music to everyone’s ears who had longed for the event. The series last competed at Martinsville on June 6, 2010, with Bobby Santos – April’s Social Star of the Month, coincidentally – taking the win in that race over Justin Bonsignore.
To add to the excitement, the race will be contested at night, utilizing Martinsville Speedway’s LED lighting system introduced in 2017. The event will be 200 laps in distance, as part of the spring NASCAR Cup Series weekend at the historic venue.
After surprising the short track world with some very pleasant news about the return of an exciting event, Martinsville Speedway has been named the StopTech Social Star for May 2019.
