In today’s racing world, becoming a star takes more than just on-track performance.  Just like the high component braking systems and components offered by StopTech, it takes the full package.  Part of that package involves a driver’s presence, creativity and ability to interact with fans on social media.

With that in mind, has teamed up with StopTech to recognize a “Social Star” each month during the 2019 racing season.

For the month of January, one driver seemed to have a hair up on the competition, literally.

The StopTech Social Star of the Month for January 2019 is Rico Abreu.

Rico had the social media world buzzing during the Chili Bowl Nationals when he decided to sell mullet hats out of “Rico’s Van” to those in attendance.

Everyone from Chili Bowl promoter Emmett Hahn, to former NASCAR Cup Series champion Tony Stewart, to MAVTV and Speed51’s own Bob Dillner were sporting the Rico mullet throughout the week.  That’s not to mention the hundreds of fans who sported them at the event in Tulsa, OK and shared their own photos on social media.

A Tweet that from Abreu that included a video with Stewart sporting the mullet hat garnered nearly 4,000 likes alone during the week.

For his ability to pump up the fans and get them involved on social media, Rico has been named the first ever recipient of the StopTech Social Star of the Month Award for January 2019.
