In today’s racing world, becoming a star takes more than just on-track performance. Just like the high component braking systems and components offered by StopTech, it takes the full package. Part of that package involves a driver’s presence, creativity and ability to interact with fans on social media.
With that in mind, Speed51.com has teamed up with StopTech to recognize a “Social Star” each month during the 2019 racing season.
So far we have seen Rico Abreu’s mullet at the Chili Bowl, Kenny Wallace’s encouraging words and Casey Roderick’s strong words about Late Model racing earn monthly honors as the StopTech Social Star of the Month.
This time around, the award isn’t going to a driver that said or did something interesting on their own social media accounts; it’s going to a driver that had a few bold words in victory lane which ended up going viral on social media.
The driver we’re speaking of is normally very reserved. He normally doesn’t have a lot to say. However, a fellow competitor struck a nerve with him on Sunday, April 28 during the USAC Silver Crown race at Toledo Speedway.
After finishing second to Kody Swanson in the feature race, Bobby Santos III was being interviewed by USAC pit reporter Georgia Henneberry when things took an unexpected turn. While being interviewed, Santos challenged third-place finisher Aaron Pierce to a boxing match on the frontstretch after an on-track incident and words between the two teams in victory lane.
“It’s tough, especially when guys run you all over on the race track it makes it even harder. Then they come over and want to fight you. I’ll take them on any day. Not on the race track, though. Let’s lift the fists,” Santos said on FloRacing. “My car owner doesn’t have as much money as your car owner, so let’s fight right here on the frontstretch with no race cars involved, man versus man. No race cars, no reason to wreck race cars. Come on.”
After grabbing the attention of the short track racing world for his words in victory lane, Bobby Santos has been named the StopTech Social Star for March 2019.
