While the Open division at Millbridge Speedway is the class that garners most of the attention, the young kids of the Box Stock division often put on a thrilling show. At this year’s QRC Speed51 Open presented by HMS Motorsport, the Box Stock kids will get the chance to race for $1,000 thanks to Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series driver Ricky Stenhouse Jr., and also RPM Trailer Sales.
Stenhouse, who is a former competitor in the QRC Speed51 Open at Millbridge, said the opportunity to give back to young kart racers at the QRC Speed51 Open on May 22-23 was something he couldn’t pass up.
“It’s kids racing and giving back to them and the sport,” Stenhouse said. “I remember racing go karts and winning big-money races of $500 to $1,200, and as a kid that was so freaking cool. Millbridge does a great job giving kids a place to race and I want to just help out.”
In addition to Stenhouse, putting up money is RPM Trailer Sales of Georgia. Brad Sellers, owner of RPM Trailer Sales, echoed Stenhouse’s sentiments.
“At RPM Trailer Sales, we love to support local grassroots racing,” Sellers stated. “It’s the heart and soul of the sport. We wanted to do our best to help these young racers and their families offset their costs. If we can support the younger kids and keep that young crop of racers healthy, that allows for a better crop of adult, more experienced racers. They put their heart and soul into racing and put on a wonderful show that we enjoy watching.”
The $1,000-to-win Box Stock race at the QRC Speed51 Open presented by HMS Motorsport will take place on Tuesday, May 22 at Millbridge Speedway.
Millbridge Speedway has become the home of Outlaw Kart racing in North Carolina. Millbridge Speedway has seen drivers from all sorts of disciplines race at the track. Those drivers include Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series stars Kyle Larson and Ricky Stenhouse Jr., two-time Chili Bowl Midget Nationals champion Christopher Bell, former USAC National Midgets champion Tanner Thorson and more.
The QRC Speed51 Open presented by HMS Motorsport annually sees more than 50 drivers try to qualify for the event. One year ago, it was Nick Hoffman who took home the big check and the trophy.
The Open division portion of this year’s QRC Speed51 Open will be broadcast via a tape-delayed broadcast on MAVTV, as well as a live pay-per-view broadcast on Speed51.com.
