‘Stark’ Contrast in Strategy Wins Vore’s Cup at Angola

Jerry Manns dominated the 30-lap Vores Compact Touring Series feature at Angola Motorsports Speedway Saturday night, but it was Kyle Stark racing his way through the field to take home the Vore’s Cup live on Speed51’s Summer Thunder TV.
Of the 39 Vores Compact Touring Series drivers that descended on Angola Motorsports Speedway, Manns appeared to be the car to beat early, pulling away from the field from the drop of the green flag.  Manns led the first 20 laps of the event before Stark announced his presence.
Stark, who worked his way to the front from 10th place, clawed through the field one by one until briefly battling with Manns for the lead.  Stark preferred the inside line, using it to make most of his passes.  Stark, who won the first edition Vore’s Cup race, would go on to pull away and win its seventh iteration as well.
“I pretty much just wanted that trophy back,” Stark told Speed51 in Victory Lane.  “That’s pretty much the reason we came here.”
After setting quick time in qualifying and drawing a nine-car inversion, Stark questioned whether he and the car could make it back to the front.
“With how the traffic was working out, I just started picking them off.  I couldn’t sit around,” Stark said.  “Then the caution came out…the car was starting to push really good, the caution cooled it back down.”
For Mann, his Angola performance was his best in the series.
“I saw the halfway mark and I’m thinking, okay, 15 to go.  When that caution came out, I wasn’t sure how many laps were left,” Mann stated.  “I knew there were some fast cars behind me, I just tried to hold them off the best I could.”
The Vores Compact Touring Series continues its season at Shadybowl Speedway in Ohio, which will be the tour’s third event of the year.  Saturday’s event can by watched on-demand anytime by Speed51 premium subscribers, while an enhanced version of the event will air September 2 on Speed51’s Short Track America on MAVTV.
