One of the richest one-day asphalt Super Late Model shows in the country will be receiving a big boost in 2018.  Berlin Raceway (MI) recently announced the addition of a presenting sponsor for this year’s Money in the Bank 150.  Primera Plastics, a long-time supporter of the Marne, MI race track, has stepped up to support the $20,000-to-win Super Late Model race.

“After last year’s inaugural try of this one day, $20,000-to-win Money in the Bank event, with support of the teams that participated, we just had to do it again,” said Mike Bursley, President of Berlin Raceway.  “Our goal was to create a big money show without a huge expense to the racer and this year with the help of Primera Plastics, we have been able to make it even better.”

“We have been involved with Berlin Raceway for a number of years and are extremely excited to now be a part of another prestigious event at this facility,” said Noel Cuellar, Founder/CEO of Primera Plastics.  “Big events like this typically bring in a lot of big names along with a number of talented drivers which makes for a great show, and that’s what we are looking forward to.”

The second running of the Money in the Bank will be a 150-lap, six-tire race.  Teams that register online by May 25 will have the opportunity to save money on their tire bill as four tires are included at a heavily discounted rate with each early entry fee.

“We know that tires are another big expense for teams so this was another way we thought may help entice some guys that aren’t quite sure about the event to keep an open mind and give it a try,” Bursley explained.  “If we can continue to grow the support of teams participating and continue to get the national exposure from our media outlets, there is no doubt we can make this event bigger every year.”

Overall, the inaugural Money in the Bank 150 was deemed a huge success by the racers and fans that attended the race.  Much of that has to do with the low costs involved for teams to compete in a race that features a hefty purse.

“There really is no reason why there can’t be more big money, one-day events like this in the asphalt racing world,” Bursley claimed.  “There are a number of things that we all can pinpoint as to what will make asphalt racing better, but we believe a lot of it has to do with lengthy asphalt race weekends which could be why dirt racing seems to be enhancing.”

Bursley believes that one of the reasons teams enjoyed the event last year is due to the limited lodging expenses needed.  With practice, qualifying and the race all being held on the same day, teams were able to keep more money in their pocket.

“Some of the biggest expenses for a team is travel lodging and the help of people,” Bursley began.  “The more time you and your team have to spend out of town, the pricier things get with hotels and such and we understand that, which is why we are really trying to make these big, one-day events successful for both the tracks and the teams.

“West Michigan is a great area with a lot to see and we are proud to be here, but I don’t see very many hotel chains that sponsor any of these teams so I don’t see the need to fatten any of their pockets by keeping the out-of-towners here any longer than they need and/or want to be.  If they want to come early or stay later and have a good time that’s great, I’m just not going to require them to be here.”
