SpeedFest Pro Late Model Qualifying Decided by Narrow Margin

After a delay of nearly 18 hours, the JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour Pro Late Models finally got in their qualifying session for the 16th edition of CRA SpeedFest on Saturday morning at Watermelon Capital Speedway. Despite going out early and having to outlast most of the 28-car field, Tennessee’s Willie Allen held on to earn the fast qualifier award for the 125-lap feature coming up Saturday afternoon.

Allen’s time of 16.130 seconds was just quick enough, with second-place qualifier Kyle Plott coming within two-hundredths at 16.150 seconds.

The former Nashville Fairgrounds Speedway Pro Late Model champion is also doing double-duty at Watermelon Capital on Saturday, competing in the ARCA/CRA Super Series 200-lap feature following the Pro Late Models.

“We got two great Camry’s, just excited to be here racing. Looking forward to it.  It’s going to be a long day, a lot of good cars out here. Just glad to be here racing and hopefully we can improve on the Super and maintain with the Pro,” Allen said on the Speed51 live broadcast.

Dawson Fletcher also kept things close with a time of 16.199 seconds, while Steve Dorer and Rafe Slate completing the top five. Brandon Oakley, Augie Grill, Stephen Nasse, and Daniel Dye qualified six through nine; Dye and Nasse will be on the front row with a top-nine inversion of the qualifying results setting the starting lineup.

The JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour 125-lap feature follows the Bandolero and Legends Car features which will begin at 1 p.m. ET on Saturday. The Super Late Models of the ARCA/CRA Super Series 200-lapper follows the Pro Late Model race.
