This weekend, karting gets back on track in Missouri at the AJC Midwest Championships. Speed51 will be there to broadcast the event from the Vandalia Area Fairgrounds.
The AJC Midwest Championships will be available for free to Speed51 premium subscribers. Saturday’s feature races will be shown on the broadcast.
The event was originally scheduled for April 3-4 at Illinois’ Bedrock Raceway, but has changed venue and date due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Now, new promoter Adam Johnson is excited to carry on the event at the Vandalia Fairgrounds.
"This will be my first event where I have had to organize every detail of operations,” Johnson told Speed51. “When I originally was looking to promote an event, I was not expecting the race to be of this magnitude. With the pandemic it was really hard to pick a date and run with it, we just got lucky it was the first open weekend anywhere in the country for a go kart race, it will be the first outdoor race in months, so the following is quite large.
“We are expecting racers from 14 different states running for $30,000 in total purse and prizes. I feel very blessed to have the following and support from my friends and fellow racers.”
The venue change also presents a challenge to racers, who will be visiting the Vandalia Area Fairgrounds for the first time.
“With this being a first time show at a new race track no one knows what to expect for kart setup, tire program, or how operations with go. I believe people like the new, it keeps them on their toes.”
Fans can watch the event as Speed51 premium subscribers at no cost beyond their subscription. Those who aren’t premium members can join today as a monthly or yearly member and enjoy Saturday’s racing action, as well as an expansive library of on-demand content.
