In 2017, the CARS Tour brought the idea of a throwback event to the theater of Southeast Late Model racing, with their Throwback 276 at Hickory Motor Speedway (NC). It gave a chance for teams from both the Super Late Model and Late Model Stock Tours to delve into the pages of history, showing off both personal and fan-favorite looks.
After a successful debut last year, it’s back for 2018, and already with plenty of fan-favorite schemes slated to hit the race track. For the second year in a row, Speed51.com’s Five Star Race Car Bodies Facebook Feed will be the home of the Best Appearing Car contest.
An already tremendous response from multiple race teams has CARS Tour promoter, Chris Ragle excited for the next week ahead.
“Last year we had 25 paint schemes. This year we’ll be up around 35. It’s just insane how much this event has grown in just its second year. We’re really excited about it. The focal point is the paint schemes, it’s what everybody likes to see with short track racing with us. We don’t necessarily have a lot of corporate obligations to abide by, so the competitors can even change numbers and things like that.”
As was the case last season, teams from both Tours will enter for a single prize, in this case $500 courtesy of Hoosier Racing Tires. But, the overall process has been changed up for 2018.
Starting Friday, August 3rd, race fans will be able to go to the Speed51 Five Star Race Car Bodies Facebook Feed, where photos of all the paint jobs will once again be featured. Fans will cast their vote by liking their favorite paint scheme, with voting running through the following Monday, August 6th until 4 p.m. ET.
The top three most-voted from each of the two Tours will advance to a final round where the six remaining schemes will go to a vote of a panel made up of Speed51 and CARS Tour staff. The winner will be announced shortly after voting closes on Speed51.com.
