Hickory Motor Speedway is one of the most historic short tracks in the world. On Saturday, May 16, the storied venue will return to action by adding a new chapter to its legendary lore.
For the first time in history, there will be an event raced without any fans in the grandstands. To help the facility’s great fans, Speed51 and Hickory Motor Speedway will offer a live pay-per-view broadcast to help the track with expenses for the event.
The event at Hickory will be headlined by Twin-51 lap features for unsanctioned Late Model Stock Cars. Paramount Auto Group Limited Late Models, Renegades and Four Cylinders will also be in action.
While fans will not be allowed to attend the event, they will be able to purchase pay-per-view tickets for the race starting Monday, May 11 on Speed51.
“We are working hard to put this race on for the competitors that have the desire to get back to work at the racetrack,” said Hickory Motor Speedway General Manager Kevin Piercy, who had worked with the NCDHHS and Catawba County Public Health within the state to make this event happen. “We will adhere to all the social distancing guidelines and this first race unfortunately, will not allow anyone in the grandstands. That’s why we have partnered with Speed51 to help us bring this event to all of our loyal fans.”
“Hickory Motor Speedway is a legendary racetrack; it’s ‘The Birthplace of the NASCAR Stars.’ said Speed51 President Bob Dillner. “Kevin and his staff are doing what they can to help the racing community in this area by having this event. It will be unique with no fans in the stands, but I think it’s going to be a great night of racing and we are proud to be part of it with Speed51.”
