Speed51 Staff Picks the Winner of the Snowflake 100

As the 52nd Annual Snowball Derby presented by BJ’s Wholesale Club rolls on, the intensity only ramps up.  On Saturday, the Allen Turner Snowflake 100 takes place, pitting the best Pro Late Models in North America against one another for 100 laps around Five Flags Speedway (FL).  Don’t miss any of the excitement this weekend by ordering Speed51’s pay-per-view here.

To preview Saturday’s race, Speed51’s staff voted on its picks to win the Pro Late Model showcase.

Adam Mackey, Speed51 Commentator

Pick: Bubba Pollard

The race is the Snowflake and the car is a Pro Late Model. Those two reasons are why Bubba Pollard will end up in victory lane.

Alan Dietz, Speed51 Commentator

Pick: Bubba Pollard

There are a lot of great drivers to pick from for the Snowflake, but there’s no drama here for me. I’m picking Bubba Pollard.  He has been unbeatable in his Pro Late Model and it will be no different at the Snowflake.

Blaise Dillner, Speed51 Pit Reporter

Pick: Bubba Pollard

He didn’t win it last year but his Pro Late Model is almost unbeatable. He will take home the Snowflake 100 this year.

Brandon Paul, Speed51 Content Manager

Pick: Augie Grill

Picking Augie Grill to win at Five Flags Speedway is never a bad bet.  As the winningest driver in Snowball Derby history with eight weekend wins, including two Snowflake victories, he’ll be a contender come Saturday evening.

Connor Sullivan, Speed51 Northeast Editor

Pick: Stephen Nasse

Nasse has shown to be dominant on the Pro Late Model side, and he knows his way around Five Flags. With those, plus a good qualifying lap, he can win his first Snowflake 100.

Daryl Canfield, Speed51 Field Ops Manager

Pick: Bubba Pollard

Pollard is the king of Pro Late Model marquee events. It’s hard to pick against No. 26 on Saturday night.

Elgin Traylor, Speed51 Southeast Correspondent

Pick: Bubba Pollard

Pollard’s Pro Late Model has been almost untouchable.  Look for him to get his third Snowflake 100 win.

Evan Canfield, Speed51 Photographer

Pick: Bubba Pollard

When it comes to Pro Late Model racing, Bubba has been extremely difficult to beat this year. Look for the Georgia native to be standing on the roof of his No. 26 when the checkered flag falls on the Snowflake 100.

Kendra Adams, Speed51 National Correspondent

Pick: Bubba Pollard

I choose Bubba for the win for the Snowflake Derby because he’s incredible behind the wheel of a Pro Late Model, and a fan favorite

Koty Geyer, Speed51 Midwest Correspondent

Pick: Sammy Smith

Who doesn’t like surprises? Smith has been strong anytime he straps into the Anthony Campi No. 81, including the World Series of Asphalt PLM championship back in February.  He will have a real strong shot at giving ACR their second-straight Snowflake 100 victory and establishing himself as the next young star.

Kyler Hope, Speed51 West Coast Correspondent

Pick: Derek Thorn

Thorn will be bringing a trophy back home to the west coast. He is a very strong and disciplined driver, and he will be the one to watch in the Snowflake 100.

Mark Keeler, Speed51 Operations Manager

Pick: Bubba Pollard

It’s hard to pick against Pollard in any Late Model event, much less a Pro Late Model and at the track that has become his proverbial playground in recent years. He knows the track, the car, the competition and exactly what pace it takes to pull off the ‘W’ in a 100-lap race behind the wheel of his Pro Late Model.

Patrick Hahe, Speed51 Midwest Correspondent

Pick: Derek Thorn

Thorn was fast at Nashville, his last East Coast appearance, but ran into trouble during practice.  I expect his speed will carry through to the Snowflake, leading him to the trophy.

Ryan McCollough, Speed51 Gulf Coast Correspondent

Pick: Connor Okrzesik

A non-Southern driver hasn’t won the Flake since 2003. The streak will continue as the 2019 hardware will be taken back to southwest Alabama by Okrzesik.

Will Bellamy, Speed51 Social Media Manager

Pick: Sammy Smith

I’m going to take Sammy Smith. He’s had a strong year and looking to finish 2019 strong.

Zach Evans, Speed51 Southeast Editor

Pick: Bubba Pollard

Pollard didn’t run every Allen Turner Pro Late Model event in 2019 at Five Flags Speedway, but he’s two-for-two when he shows up.  If he can win the Snowflake 100, that will give him the hat trick on the season as well as a third career win in the Snowflake.
