The Speed51 Open at Millbridge Speedway will not take place in 2020. Originally scheduled for May 18-20, the event was initially postponed in April due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic with hopes of contesting the event later in the 2020 season.
However, state and local restrictions remain in place for the Salisbury, North Carolina facility, which prevent Millbridge from hosting the marquee Outlaw Kart event.
“We are very disappointed to announce the cancelation of this year’s Speed51 Open presented by HMS Motorsport,” said Millbridge Speedway co-owner Ashly Burnett. “However, it is of the utmost importance that our competitors and fans are able to enjoy this huge event in a safe manner.
“Hopefully, 2021 will be a better year for all of us, and we will be able to invite the nation’s best Outlaw Kart racers and our fans to Millbridge for an even bigger Speed51 Open next year.”
The Speed51 Open is one of the richest and most prestigious Outlaw Kart events each year. The event is headlined by a $5,151-to-win, 51-lap Open Division feature, which brings out dirt racing and Outlaw Karting stars from across the country.
While the Speed51 Open is not taking place this year, Millbridge Speedway is still operating its regular weekly events while maintaining COVID guidelines. With fans unable to attend these events, stay tuned to Speed51 to watch those races live and see all of the action.
