Speed51 eSports Gearing Up For Official Snowball Derby Events

Sim Racing competitors from across the world will have the chance once again to call themselves an official Virtual Snowball Derby Champion, as Speed51 eSports partners with Five Flags Speedway to present several eSports events around the prestigious event.

Late Model racers will have a chance to trade out their race cars for their computers and compete head-to-head on Tuesday, November 24 to be the winner of the Virtual Snowball Derby Invitational.  The event will be invite only and will be broadcast on Speed51.com/eSports.  Pro drivers previously competed in the Rowdy Energy Speed51 Super Select Series this Spring, pitting 75 drivers with real-world racing experience head-to-head on virtual tracks around the country using the iRacing platform.  Parker Retzlaff won the series championship over Alex McCollum and Devon Morgan, taking home $500 and an invite to the next real-world Speed51 Super Select event.

Elite Racing League will host a fixed setup Virtual Snowball Derby on November 29, continuing the success of last year’s inaugural event.  This event will be open to any iRacing competitors and will have a $20 entry fee.  $500 in purse money will be up for grabs in the full-distance event, along with the bragging rights of being able to call yourself a Virtual Snowball Derby Champion.  Qualifying for the event will take place on November 22nd.  Both qualifying and the Elite Virtual Snowball Derby will be broadcast on Speed51.com/eSports.

Following the completion of the 53rd Snowball Derby, sim racers will have one more opportunity to earn the title of Virtual Snowball Derby Champion.  Speed51 eSports will be hosting the Virtual Snowball Derby December 10-13.  The events, featuring open setups and full distance races, will give drivers a chance to compete in both a Virtual Snowball Derby and a Virtual Snowflake at the digital Five Flags Speedway.  Drivers looking to compete in the Virtual Snowball Derby will need to pay a $30 entry fee, while the Virtual Snowflake will be free to enter.  Qualifying will take place on December 11 for both events, with the Virtual Derby LCQ and Virtual Snowflake taking place on December 12.  Our Virtual Derby will wrap up the weekend on December 13.  Both the Virtual Snowflake and Virtual Snowball Derby will be broadcast on Speed51.com/eSports.

While the competition will be fierce throughout our Virtual Snowball Derby events, competitors will also be helping the Pensacola area through donations to area charities following the event.  Following the inaugural Virtual Snowball Derby, Speed51 was able to make a $1,000 donation to Pensacola’s 98.7 Cat Country Christmas Wish program.  Christmas Wish works to grant wishes to those in need across the Pensacola area.  This year’s charities will be named at a later date.

Drivers interested in competing in any of the Speed51 eSports Virtual Snowball Derby events will be able to submit entry blanks starting next week. More information on specific event details will be available at that time.  If you have any questions, please reach out to Speed51 eSports Manager Patrick Hahe at [email protected]
