As the 2018 short track racing schedule nears the finish line all eyes will begin to focus on the 51st Annual Snowball Derby at Five Flags Speedway. With the biggest Super Late Model race of the year now just over six weeks away, Speed51.com is ready to unleash a new “Focus on the Derby” series that will bring race fans an in-depth look at this year’s Snowball Derby.
After looking at the history of the Snowball Derby during last year’s “50 for 50” series, the “Focus on the Derby” series will focus on current events leading into the 51st edition of the race. The series, which will launch early next week, will take a look at the major players and the behind-the-scenes story that make up the biggest Super Late Model race in America.
“We had such a good reception with our 50-for-50 series leading up to last year’s Snowball Derby that we wanted to do something similar and as introspective, but current,” said Speed51.com Executive Editor Bob Dillner. “We are digging in and painting the picture of the current event, its happenings and its players because there’s nothing quite like the Snowball Derby.”
This latest series of stories on Speed51.com will continue to build on the website’s billing as the “Official News Site of the 51st Annual Snowball Derby.”
All of the “Focus on the Derby” stories, as well as additional news and information, will be available on Snowball Central presented by Schaeffer’s Specialized Lubricants on Speed51.com. Snowball Central presented by Schaeffer’s will launch next Monday, October 22.
The 51st Annual Snowball Derby will begin on Wednesday, November 28 as the Pure Stock division will compete for 50 laps around Five Flags Speedway. Wednesday’s program also includes rig parking for Late Model teams, the Green Flag Pit Party following the Pure Stock race, and the qualifying draw for both the Snowflake 100 and the Snowball Derby.
Late Model teams will take to the track for the first time on Thursday, November 29 in their first rounds of practice. Thursday night’s racing program features 50-lap events for the Sportsmen and Outlaw Stock competitors.
The Friday of Snowball Derby weekend is often called the most intense day in short track racing, as Super Late Model drivers compete in qualifying in hopes of securing their spot in Sunday’s field. The Modifieds will also be in action on Friday, November 30 in a 75-lap feature.
Saturday, December 1 is jam-packed with racing action. With qualifying for the Pro Late Model Snowflake 100, last chance races for both the Snowflake 100 and Snowball Derby, the Snowflake 100 itself and a 50-lap Pro Truck feature, there is no shortage of excitement for fans at the track.
