Race fans will experience a blast from the past this Saturday when the CARS Tour invades Hickory Motor Speedway (NC). The CARS Tour Throwback 276 is set to feature more than 25 throwback paint schemes, retro attire and other features that will bring racing “back to the way it used to be.”
For the teams choosing to partake in the fun, there will be a $1,000 Speed51.com Best Appearing Throwback Car Award presented by Richard’s Painting and Hoosier Asphalt South.
“This weekend’s Throwback 276 at Hickory is more than we could have ever imagined. This event is something short track racing needed, and Hickory Motor Speedway is the perfect place for it,” said CARS Tour Series Director Chris Ragle. “As a series, we’ve been seeking a marquee event that we can be known for across the country; I think we’ve found that with the Throwback 276. The participation from the teams, drivers, and our graphics partners have been overwhelming in this inaugural event. A big thank you has to go to Richard’s Painting and Hoosier Asphalt South for jumping on board and sponsoring the Best Appearing Throwback Car award, and Speed51.com for hosting the voting process so that this event reaches short track racing fans all across North America.”
Voting for the Speed51.com Best Appearing Throwback Car Award will be held on Speed51.com’s Five Star Race Car Bodies Facebook beginning Friday evening. Race fans will be able to visit a photo gallery and “like” the cars that they think should win the $1,000 award.
The rules are simple: the car earning the most “likes” before Monday at 3 p.m. ET will be awarded the bonus. Speed51.com and CARS Tour officials will announce the winner Tuesday evening at 7 p.m. ET during the debut of the new TV-style show Short Track Center on Speed51.com.
Hype has been building surrounding the CARS Tour Throwback 276 event since it was announced earlier this year. Throwback schemes have been revealed on social media and many teams have announced their plans to kick it old school on Saturday.
“It’s pretty cool to see the excitement that these Late Model teams have for the CARS Tour Throwback event,” said Speed51.com Editor Brandon Paul. “We’re excited to be able to host the Best Appearing Throwback Car Award on Speed51.com and really look forward to seeing all of those beautiful cars on our Five Star Race Car Bodies Facebook Feed this weekend.”
In addition to the $1,000 Speed51.com Best Appearing Throwback Car Award presented by Richard’s Painting, CARS Tour will also be handing out other awards to race teams.
The race team that shows up best historically dressed will receive a $250 bonus. This award will be judged by CARS Tour officials. The judges will be looking for mustaches, retro attire and anything that makes a race team look like a blast from the past.
Additionally, CARS Tour will also be awarding $100 bonuses to every Late Model Stock Car and Super Late Model team that arrives to the track on an open hauler.
Be sure to check out the Speed51.com Five Star Race Car Bodies Facebook throughout the weekend to vote for your favorite throwback schemes. Also, stay tuned to Speed51.com’s Trackside Now coverage throughout the weekend for a look at the festivities from Hickory.
