Picking the winners of big short track races throughout the country is a tradition that our staff at Speed51.com has enjoyed for many years. With one of the biggest Modified races of the year being held Saturday at Lake Erie Speedway (PA), we decided to challenge our staff once again.

This week we asked members of our Speed51.com team, “Who are you picking to win the Race of Champions 250?”

The answers we received varied, but when all the votes were tallied it was Matt Hirschman (12 votes) who was named the overwhelming favorite to win the big race.  Overall, five different drivers received votes from our panel of 18 experts.

Check out our full list of staff picks for the Race of Champions 250 below.

Aaron Creed, Speed51.com National Correspondent

Pick: Matt Hirschman

I picked against him at the U.S. Open for once and he ended up doing what he normally does – winning. He’ll pick up the big money in the prestigious event for the fourth straight year.

Adam Mackey, Speed51.com Correspondent

Pick: Matt Hirschman

“Big Money Matt” will continue to finish off his 2018 season with success. He’s won a couple ROC races in a row and also won at Lake Erie earlier this season. Looks like an easy pick!

Bob Dillner, Speed51.com Executive Editor

Pick: Matt Hirschman

Matt Hirschman is my pick. I like them all, but why would you pick anyone else.

Brandon Paul, Speed51.com Editor

Pick: Chuck Hossfeld

Hossfeld hasn’t been the fastest driver on a weekly basis, but he’s been consistent much of the season. That’s why he’s in the title hunt, and that’s why I believe he’ll be in contention to win the Race of Champions race and the Race of Champions championship on Saturday evening.

Connor Sullivan, Speed51.com Northeast Editor

Pick: Matt Hirschman

After a not so Hirschman summer, “Big Money” is back on top of his game in September. When he’s hot, it’s hard to pick against him. He’ll make it six on Saturday night.

Dakota Geyer, Speed51.com State Editor (IN & MI)

Pick: Matt Hirschman

I made the mistake of picking against Hirschman last week at Lancaster and I won’t do it again. “Big Money” adds another RoC 250 win.

Pick: Mike Leaty

Last year’s Race of Champions 250 was a huge roller coaster filled with several pit stops for mechanical issues, but Leaty still charged to second and clinched the RoC title. This time there are no title hopes for Leaty and the L2 Autosport team will have nothing but victory on their minds.

Pick: Mike Leaty

Matt Hirschman is the obvious pick here, but I”m going to go in a different direction. Mike Leaty has had a fast car all year and came home second in last year’s RoC 250. Points aren’t a concern this year for Leaty, so he’ll add his name next to his dad’s on the silver bowl.

Elgin Traylor, Speed51.com Southeast Correspondent

Pick: Matt Hirschman

He burned me last week, so I have to go with him this week. It’s Hirschman’s show to win or lose.

Evan Canfield, Speed51.com / MoJo Photos

Pick: Andy Jankowiak

Although Matt Hirschman may be the safe pick here, I think that Andy J could spoil a victory for “Big Money.” Look for Jankowiak to take his first Race of Champions 250 victory.

Jeremy Anders, Speed51.com Northwest Editor

Pick: Matt Hirschman

Show Matt the money. Matt Hirschman will take home the win for the Race of Champions 250 with his fourth straight win.

Kevin Peters, Speed51.com Southwest Editor

Pick: Matt Hirschman

I would have picked Big Money in the U.S. Open, if I knew he was going to race in the event. I am pretty sure he will be in the Race of Champions 250, so I can’t go against Hirschman winning this race again.

Madison Mabry, Speed51.com Southeast Correspondent

Pick: Patrick Emerling

Emerling has had a consistent year with the Race of Champions Modified Series, now it’s time to add a big win to the season stats. Emerling will be the one standing in victory lane at Lake Erie Speedway.

Mark Keeler, Speed51.com Operations Manager

Pick: Matt Hirschman

It’s Matt Hirschman and it’s a big money race. Do I need to say more?

Patrick Hahe, Speed51.com Great Lakes Editor

Pick: Matt Hirschman

I have to ride the hot hand. Hirschman is the favorite every time he shows up at a Race of Champions race.

Rob Blount, Speed51.com Associate Editor

Pick: Matt Hirschman

When Big Money is on the line, Big Money Matt rises to the top. There’s a reason he has that nickname.

Ryan McCollough, Speed51.com Southeast Correspondent

Pick: Andy Jankowiak

I’ve learned the hard way that you don’t bet against Matt Hirschman in ROC action. With that said, give me Andy Jankowiak for the W.

Tom Ryan, Speed51.com Digital Manager

Pick: Matt Hirschman

Matt Hirschman is my pick because he runs very well in that race and will do so again this year.
