Picking the winners of big short track races throughout the country is a tradition that our staff at Speed51.com has enjoyed for many years. With the Granite State Pro Stock Series racing on the series’ biggest stage Sunday afternoon at the New England Short Track Showdown, we decided to challenge our staff once again.

This week we asked members of our Speed51.com team, “Who are you picking to win the Granite State Pro Stock Series race at New Hampshire Motor Speedway?”

The answers we received varied, but when all the votes were tallied it was DJ Shaw (six votes) who was named the favorite to win the big race.  Overall, five different drivers received votes from our panel of 15 experts.

Check out our full list of staff picks for the New England Short Track Showdown at New Hampshire Motor Speedway below.

Aaron Creed, Speed51.com National Correspondent

Pick: DJ Shaw

After picking up his first win of 2018 last weekend, the Center Conway, New Hampshire driver has momentum on his side and what better place to win another than the facility his father Dale Shaw won at on three occasions back in the Busch North years.

Adam Mackey, Speed51.com Announcer

Pick: DJ Shaw

DJ Shaw finished second in a race to Eddie MacDonald at New Hampshire about one year ago. This year, he will take the checkered first.

Bob Dillner, Speed51.com Executive Editor

Pick: Reid Lanpher

I see Rob Blount (and a few others) went out on a limb with their Eddie Mac pick. He’s the favorite for sure, but I’m going with Reid Lanpher because he reminds me of a young Eddie Mac.

Brandon Paul, Speed51.com Editor

Pick: Derek Griffith

Griffith is in need of a signature victory to add to his resume.  What better track to get it at than the biggest track in his home state of New Hampshire?  Griffith was fast throughout the event last year before getting caught up in an early crash.  If he can avoid negative encounters with Lady Luck, I believe he could be in store for a magical day at the Magic Mile.

Connor Sullivan, Speed51.com Northeast Editor

Pick: DJ Shaw

The Dale Shaw team brought two cars to NHMS one year ago, with both finishing on the podium behind Eddie Mac. We know they have the know-how, plus DJ’s driving talent. With the tightening of engine rules this year, it may very well tip the scales in the favor of car No. 60.

Dakota Geyer, Speed51.com State Editor (IN & MI)

Pick: Reid Lanpher

Lanpher has been one of the hottest drivers in the Northeast over the course of the last couple years. On Sunday, look for him to pick up the biggest win of his career to date at the Magic Mile.

Daryl Canfield, Speed51.com / MoJo Photos

Pick: Eddie MacDonald

I am going to take Eddie MacDonald. Seventeen happens to be a favorite number of mine, and since I’m attending this event, I want to see MacDonald #ParkIt in victory lane.

Elgin Traylor, Speed51.com Southeast Correspondent

Pick: DJ Shaw

I think it’s too easy to pick Eddie (MacDonald) in this one and sometimes you have to go with your gut. Give me Shaw for the win in his home state.

Evan Canfield, Speed51.com / MoJo Photos

Pick: Derek Griffith

I’ll take the kid Derek Griffith. He’s been one of the top drivers on the East Coast early on this year and his success will continue this weekend.

Jeremy Anders, Speed51.com West Coast Editor

Pick: Derek Griffith

I’ll take the kid Derek Griffith. He’s been one of the top drivers on the East Coast early on this year and his success will continue this weekend.

Kevin Peters, Speed51.com Southwest Editor

Pick: Eddie MacDonald

Not only did McDonald taste victory in this event last season at NHMS, he has been to victory lane at this facility 10 times since 2008. McDonald has this place wired, and he will be tough to beat.

Patrick Hahe, Speed51.com Great Lakes Editor

Pick: DJ Shaw

Shaw ran well at New Hampshire last year and enters the race with some momentum after picking up his first PASS North win of the season last weekend.

Mark Keeler, Speed51.com Operations Manager

Pick: Ben Rowe

The veteran has a legit chance to win any/every race he enters. New Hampshire this weekend should be no different, and I think his veteran’s knowledge should pay dividends on the one-mile track.

Rob Blount, Speed51.com Associate Editor

Pick: Eddie MacDonald

I’ll take the Outlaw, Eddie MacDonald. Simply because he’s The Outlaw and he’s the man up there.

Ryan McCollough, Speed51.com Southeast Correspondent

Pick: DJ Shaw

Fresh off a win in the PASS event at Speedway 95 in Maine, Shaw heads to the Magic Mile to make it two in a row. After finishing second to Eddie Mac last year, look for Shaw to continue his mid-season hot streak this weekend.

Tom Ryan, Speed51.com Digital Manager

Pick: Eddie MacDonald

I am going with Eddie MacDonald because he is magic at the New Hampshire speed plant.
