Picking the winners of big short track races throughout the country is a tradition that our staff at Speed51.com has enjoyed for many years. With one of the biggest Tour-type Modified races of the year being held Saturday at Wall Stadium (NJ), we decided to challenge our staff once again.

This week we asked members of our Speed51.com team, “Who are you picking to win the Turkey Derby?”

The answers we received varied, but when all the votes were tallied it was Jimmy Blewett (nine votes) who was named the favorite to win the big race.  Overall, three different drivers received votes from our panel of 16 experts.

Check out our full list of staff picks for the Turkey Derby below.

Adam Mackey, Speed51.com Correspondent

Pick: Jimmy Blewett

Jimmy Blewett and Matt Hirschman are the two favorites going into the weekend, without questions. Blewett has nine feature wins this season at the track and was outstanding at the event one year ago. This gives him the edge over Hirschman for my weekend pick.

Bob Dillner, Speed51.com Executive Editor

Pick: Jimmy Blewett

Blewett is my favorite racer hailing from The Garden State. The Blewetts are good people, and “Showtime” is pretty darn good at Wall Stadium, too.

Brandon Paul, Speed51.com Editor

Pick: Andrew Krause

I’m going to go a little outside the box with this pick and hope it pays off. While Krause may not have a resume filled with big race wins like Blewett or Hirschman, he’s been fast at Wall Stadium recently. Earlier this year, he won the 127-lap Cliff Krause Memorial that honored his father. If there’s a track that Krause can pick up another big win at, it’s the track that his family promotes.

Connor Sullivan, Speed51.com Northeast Editor

Pick: Jimmy Blewett

The past two seasons it has been hard to challenge Showtime in the Wall Modifieds, and last year that carried over to the Tour-type Modified feature at the Turkey Derby. We can expect more of the same on Saturday.

Dakota Geyer, Speed51.com State Editor (IN & MI)

Pick: Jimmy Blewett

Matt Hirschman is always the safe bet in any Tour-type Modified race, but Blewett has dominated the Turkey Derby in all divisions in recent years. Blewett ends the outdoor racing season in the Northeast with another Turkey Derby win.

Pick: Matt Hirschman

Having attended the Turkey Derby at Wall Stadium several times, I have to pick Matt Hirschman. Not only is he “Big Money” Matt, but he already has his fair share of trophies from this high-banked palace. Hirschman will make turkey dinner out of the competition.

Pick: Jimmy Blewett

Blewett is maybe the most prolific winner at Wall Stadium and has won the Turkey Derby before. It will come down to a shootout with Matt Hirschman for the win.

Elgin Traylor, Speed51.com Southeast Correspondent

Pick: Jimmy Blewett

Blewett is the king turkey at Wall Stadium on Thanksgiving weekend. He has six wins in this race and 22 on Turkey Derby weekend.

Pick: Jimmy Blewett

Although Matt Hirschman has been a dominant force in Modified racing this year, Jimmy Blewett has been the dominating force at Wall Stadium. With nine Modified wins this season, Blewett will cap off his championship season with a win in the Turkey Derby.

Jeremy Anders, Speed51.com Northwest Editor

Pick: Jimmy Blewett

To say Blewett has owned this race is an understatement. The defending champion and one of the winningest drivers at Wall Stadium will add another win in the Turkey Derby column.

Kevin Peters, Speed51.com Southwest Editor

Pick: Matt Hirschman

I went against the favorite last weekend, and although I finished second, it cost me in the win column. I’m going to go back and select Matt Hirschman for the win at the Turkey Derby at Wall Stadium. As good as Big Money has been this year in the big shows, it is tough to pick against him.

Mark Keeler, Speed51.com Operations Manager

Pick: Matt Hirschman

His name is “Big Money” and this is a big money race paying $5,000 to win. A = B and Matt Hirschman will win the Turkey Derby.

Patrick Hahe, Speed51.com Great Lakes Editor

Pick: Matt Hirschman

I’m going to ride the hot hand. Hirschman has been having another great year, knocking off big win after big win. I expect the Turkey Derby to be no different.

Rob Blount, Speed51.com Associate Editor

Pick: Jimmy Blewett

When the green flag waves at Wall Stadium, you know that it’s Showtime. Blewett is always the man to beat at that high-banked oval at the Jersey Shore, and I think he’ll continue his winning ways this Saturday.

Ryan McCollough, Speed51.com Southeast Correspondent

Pick: Matt Hirschman

Big Money is easy money in 2018. He will cash another check after a win at Wall.

Tom Ryan, Speed51.com Digital Manager

Pick: Matt Hirschman

“Big Money” Matt Hirschman will be hungry for the Turkey Derby after he got beat in Myrtle Beach by Tommy Catalano.
