Every year, race fans travel to Pensacola, Florida from across North America and beyond to experience one of the greatest spectacles in short track racing.  Celebrating its 47th running on December 7, the Snowball Derby at Five Flags Speedway has evolved into one of the most anticipated sporting events in the country. On an annual basis the event brings in thousands of fans that experience the thrills of short track asphalt stock car racing at its best.

Speed51.com became a part of the Snowball Derby lore in 2001 when it covered the events through stories and photo galleries.  Since then, 51 has grown to bring fans unable to attend the short track spectacle closer to the action with live Trackside Now updates, radio broadcasts, video packages, unique photography and more.  The coverage has grown into a partnership that has made Speed51.com the “Official News Website of the Snowball Derby” for the 14th straight year.

While no amount of coverage will ever substitute for actually being a part of the Snowball Derby experience, 51 will celebrate its 14th year as the Official News Site with even more interactive features than ever to bring fans that can’t be in Pensacola during the week of December 3rd through December 7th closer to the action.

51’s coverage will also be an enhancement to the at-track experience with access to all of its coverage available on mobile devices and more.

“Speed51 has a long-standing relationship with the Snowball Derby that dates back to before the Bryant family took over, however we were quick to realize the benefits of an exclusive live coverage outlet,” said Tim Bryant, promoter of Five Flags Speedway and the Snowball Derby.  “We were also quick to recognize the passion that Speed51 has for their coverage of the Snowball Derby.

“Over the years as the race has nurtured itself along, so has the 51 coverage up to today where it’s being said that the live coverage is nothing short of phenomenal.  It’s such a benefit.  Not only for those folks not able to make the trip to Pensacola, but also for folks that maybe have not left for the track and are coming later in the week.  It’s been perceived as a great benefit for those on-site at the Snowball Derby as they rely on Speed51 for insights and behind-the-scene information.”

Speed51.com’s Snowball Derby coverage will get off to a roaring start on Tuesday, December 2 with the Snowball Derby Kickoff Party, broadcasting live from the Beef ‘O’ Brady’s restaurant in Pensacola, just a few minutes from the track.  The live broadcast will feature interviews with drivers and other major players in the Snowball Derby’s past, present and future.

51’s popular Trackside Now coverage kicks off on Wednesday, December 3 with the popular parking of the team transporters with track announcer Dave Pavlock announcing each driver as they arrive for the prestigious event. The Snowball Derby Green Flag party at the track, which includes the qualifying draw for the Snowball Derby Super Late Models as well as the Allen Turner Snowflake 100 Pro Late Models, will also be covered on Wednesday.

On-track action begins Thursday, December 4 with 51 providing live Trackside Now updates of practice including the Snowflake 100 and Snowball Derby cars as well as feature action for the Five Flags Bomber and Sportsman divisions.

Friday, December 5 is WXBM Pole Night, as Snowball Derby drivers look to lock themselves into the 300-lap Snowball Derby on Sunday and 51 will bring fans all of the in-depth, behind-the-scenes coverage of one of the most anticipated days of the weekend. The Five Flags Super Stocks and Modifieds also will get flag-to-flag coverage through 51.

Coverage continues Saturday December 6 with the Allen Turner Snowflake 100 Pro Late Model event, as well as the last-chance races that will set the Snowball Derby field and a 50-lap Pro Truck race.

Then on Sunday December 7, it’s the crown jewel short track racing event, the 300-lap Super Late Model Snowball Derby, which will be covered flag-to-flag on Speed51.com.

In addition to the live coverage on Speed51.com, a variety of new and old features will help to bring fans closer to the action.  Features like the popular Derby Diaries allows fans at home and at the track to check in to see what the week is like for a driver competing in the nation’s most prestigious short track race.  Other features include unique and creative photography as well as additional multimedia features.

“The Snowball Derby is one of my favorite racing events of the year,” said Bob Dillner, owner of Speed51.com and NASCAR broadcaster.  “Every year I look forward to traveling to Pensacola, Florida to witness this one-of-a-kind event.  Tim Bryant and the Bryant family do an absolutely amazing job of putting on a great week for race fans, drivers and teams.  My family and the entire Speed51.com team are thrilled to be a part of it again in 2014.”

This season, Speed51.com will once again be putting up a $551 Northeast and Midwest bounty to Super Late Model teams making the trip to Pensacola.  The highest finishing driver in the Snowball Derby with racecars originating from each region will receive $551.  The bounty serves as another way to get more drivers involved in the race and helps to further display 51’s passion for the Snowball Derby.

51’s “Official News Site” status allows advertisers of 51’s Snowball Derby coverage to be seen by more race fans than any other short track event.  Affordable advertising rates are available now by emailing [email protected]
