What Won the Race: Derek Griffith made slight contact and powered his way to the inside of Eddie MacDonald to take over the lead on lap 185. He pulled away to win the $10,000 U.S. Pro Stock/Super Late Model National Championship at Seekonk one year after finishing runner-up.

The Skinny: Joey Polewarczyk, Jr. dominated the first 100 laps of the race, but an invert of five put Reid Lanpher on the pole for the second half of the race. Lanpher, Polewarczyk, MacDonald and Griffith all took turns leading in a wild second half before Griffith pulled away for the win.

 

Winning Quote: “He had a built motor and I got my little crate in.  He was almost stopping in the corner and I knew if I just got a nose underneath him I’d be alright.  I gave him just a little bump going into turn two and I knew from there I could probably take the lead.” – Derek Griffith on his race-winning pass.

On the Move: Garrett Hall shotgun on the field (21st) after blowing the transmission in his No. 94 before qualifying and charged to a second-place finish, a gain of 19 positions.

 

Biggest Loser: Defending race winner Tom Scully, Jr. started eighth but after going to the pits he finished 17th, a loss of nine positions.

Qualifying Format: Super Late Models will time trial to set the lineup for three qualifying heat races. Those qualifying heat races will set the field for the first half of the 200-lap feature. There will then be an invert of one to six pulled at the lap 100 break.

 

Event Schedule: Pro Stock/Super Late Model time trials kick off the racing schedule with time trials at 5 p.m. ET. Qualifying heats for the Pro Stocks/SLMs will begin at 6 p.m. and will be followed by Legends and Sportsman heats. A 25-lap Legends feature will kick off feature racing leading into the first 100 laps of the Pro Stock/SLM Nationals. There will then be a 30-lap Sportsman race before the final 100 laps of the Pro Stock/SLM Nationals.

 

Who to Watch For: Those at Seekonk Speedway and watching live on Speed51.com should keep an eye on Derek Ramstrom.  He is a former DAV Fall Classic winner at Seekonk and has been itching for a big race win. Joey Polewarczyk, Jr. will also be a driver to keep an eye on after dominating much of last year’s race.

 

Title Fight: This is not a points-counting event for any track or series.

 

The Track: Seekonk Speedway is a 1/3-mile paved oval located in Seekonk, Massachusetts.
