Title Fight:

The STSS South Region has completed two of its seven races entering Big Diamond. Anthony Perrego of Montgomery, N.Y., opened 2016 with a victory at Georgetown (Del.), while Wade Hendrickson of Lawrenceville, N.J., upset the Bridgeport (N.J.) field. Perrego narrowly leads the South point standings over Ryan Godown and Stewart Friesen.

 

Orange County Fair Speedway in Middletown, N.Y., was the site of the only STSS North Region contested this season. Tommy Meier of Waldwick, N.J., was credited with his first-ever series win in the 50-lap main.

 

Points for both series will be awarded at Big Diamond.

 

On the Move:  Jordan Watson in the 1w was the man on the move during the 50-Lap A-Main. He started in the 23rd position and came home with a 5th place finish.

 

Biggest Loser: Jerry Higbie was on the losing end of the battle tonight starting in the 6th position and exiting early finishing in the 31st and last position.

Qualifying Events: Heat races will be determined via a draw for position. The top 2 qualifiers from the heat races will transfer to the redraw with the remainder filled in before the consolation transfers. A last-chance dash will be run if needed. 28 cars will qualify through the heats, consolations and last chance dash (if needed). Two provisional starters from 2015 STSS point standings will bring the starting field to a minimum of 30 cars.

 

Event Schedule: Pit gates unlock at 4 p.m. Grandstand gates will open at 5 p.m. Hot laps begin at 7:15 p.m. and racing gets underway at 7:45 p.m.

 

The Track: Big Diamond Speedway is a 3/8-mile semi-banked clay oval located in Pottsville, Pennsylvania.

 

Weather: Partly sunny skies with a temperature of 60 degrees.

 

Next Series Race: Next up for the Short Track Super Series North will be a $5,000-to-win race at Thunder Mountain Speedway (NY) on Sunday, May 29.  The Short Track Super Series South will return to action on Thursday, May 26 at Delaware International Speedway.
