What Won the Race: Strickler’s strength on short runs and his handling ability on the bottom of the race track was too much for Wisecarve to overcome.

The Finish: Strickler had to deal with a restart with under 10 laps to go, but he was able to power away from Jesse Wisecarve to take the win in the first points race for the SE Dirt Modified Series. Rich Michael Jr., Jason Beaulieu and Chris Arnold completed the top five.

The Skinny: Strickler started second and quickly took the lead from Wisecarver on the third attempt at the start of the race.  From there it was all Strickler out front.  Wisecarver tried to challenge when Strickler caught lapped traffic, but a timely caution for Strickler prevented Wisecarver from taking the lead.  Strickler was dominant out front all race long, but had to deal with a six-lap shootout after a late caution came out.  Strickler jumped out in front like he had all night and pulled away from Wisecarver to take the victory.

Notebook:  About five groups of Modifieds took time in hot laps ahead of tonight’s two-lap time-trial session.  The Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series is currently on-track for its time-trial session.  Fans can watch all of the action for the LOLMDS live on Lucas Oil Racing TV and can catch highlights on DirtonDirt.com. Jesse Wisecarve set fast time in qualifying beating out David Stremme, Nick Hoffman, Kyle Strickler and Chris Arnold. Up next for the Southeast Dirt Modified Series will be their four heat races. Each heat race is a total of eight (8) laps with the top four transferring to the 40-lap feature. Wisecarve wins the first heat race with Ryan Toole taking the fourth and final transfer spot from the first heat race. Garrett Lloyd slowed while running in the final transfer spot to bring out the caution on the second lap of the second heat race. Stremme takes the win in the second heat race with Cory Daugherty scoring the fourth and final transfer spot for that heat race. Jacob Hawkins wins a wild heat race No. 3 over Nick Hoffman. Derrick Ramey takes the fourth and final transfer spot from that heat. Kyle Stricker wins the fourth and final heat race. Two cars get together going for the final transfer spot in the first B-Main just past halfway. Shawn Beasley gets the worst of it. John Burette takes the win in the first B-Main. Ryan Ayers takes the win in the second and final B-Main with Tyler Evans grabbing the final transfer spot. Strickler has dominated the first half, but Wisecarve caught Strickler in traffic just before the yellow flag waved. Strickler, Wisecarve and Stremme are the top three with 18 laps complete. Strickler holds off Wisecarve on a late restart to take the win.

Car Count: 41 IMCA-style Modifieds signed into the pit area at Golden Isles Speedway for tonight’s 40-lap feature event.

Title Fight: Wednesday night’s racing action was a non-points event.  Tonight’s race will be the first points event of 2016, along with Saturday’s originally scheduled race.

Fast Qualifier: Jesse Wisecarve set fast time in time-trials with a lap of 17.207 seconds around the Golden Isles Speedway.  His fast lap came on his second of his two timed laps.  He beat David Stremme by two one-hundredths of a second.  Nick Hoffman, Kyle Strickler and Chris Arnold completed the top five in time-trials.

Qualifying Events: The Southeast Dirt Modified Series will have a two-lap time-trial session to determine the heat race lineups.  The starting lineups will be determined by the results of the heat races. The four heat races are eight (8) laps long with the top four transferring to the 40-lap feature.  There will be two consolation races that are 10 laps each with the top three transferring to the feature.

Who To Watch For: Nick Hoffman already has a win this week as he took the victory in Wednesday night’s non-points race.  Kyle Strickler “The Highside Tickler) is always one to watch for in these types of races.

Super Bowl of Racing (Golden Isles) Winners:

Wednesday, February 3 ($1,500 to win) – Nick Hoffman

Thursday, February 4 ($2,000 to win) – POSTPONED (RAIN) – Moved to Saturday.

Friday, February 5 ($3,000 to win) – Kyle Strickler

Saturday, February 6 ($4,000 to win) –

Green Flag: Hot laps begin at 5 p.m. ET with feature racing set to begin at approximately 7 p.m. ET.

The Track: Golden Isles Speedway has made plenty of improvements over the course of the last two years.  Speedway management has made changes to the surface itself to try to improve the racing, as well as upgrades to the lighting and grandstands.  In fact, the grandstands are all new to Golden Isles Speedway as they have been transferred here from the Daytona International Speedway in Florida.

Weather: You couldn’t ask for a better day along the coast of Georgia.  There isn’t a single cloud in the sky, and the temperature is right in the mid-50’s. There’s a slight wind, and the air is expected to cool as the evening goes on, but it’s a great day for racing.

Next Series Race: The Super Bowl of Racing at Golden Isles Speedway for the Southeast Dirt Modified Series is a four-day event.  The series kicked off Wednesday, February 3 and continues through Saturday, February 6.  Wednesday’s and Thursday’s events are non-points, while Friday’s and Saturday’s events count towards the 2016 Southeast Dirt Modified Series championship.
