What Won the Race:

A super strong car by Perrego and the unfortunate luck of a flat tire for Danny Creeden.

The Finish:

Stewart Friesen made a late race charge coming to the white flag and got to the inside of Perrego for the lead, but Perrego held him off to claim the Lightning on the Mountain victory.

The Skinny:

A strong field of 45 Short Track Super Series Modifieds invaded the Thunder Mountain Speedway for the 50-lap Lightning on the Mountain. Brian Malcolm led the charge to the green flag and took the early lead. Danny Creeden charged quickly to the second spot  behind Malcolm until a restart gave Creeden the chance to steal the lead and build a sizeable advantage. Andy Bachetti charging up to the front suffered a flat tire and would have to go to the rear of the field. Anthony Perrego and Stewart Friesen were on the charge mid-way through the event and Perrego moved into second after starting in the tenth position. Perrego had Creeden in his sights when the 16x of Creeden slowed and went high with a flat tire. Before Creeden could get to the pit area, he got clipped by the 91 of Billy Decker, tearing up both cars sheet metal. Creeden pitted and returned to action and Decker continued as well. On the restart, Perrego stormed out front with Friesen trying to reel him in. Friesen charged hard with two laps remaining, getting inside Perrego in turns 3-4, but Perrego had the momentum and drove back out front to claim the Short Track Super Series victory.

Winning Quote:

“This Teo Pro Car is on rails, we won last night, and the car came and got better tonight. We made a lot of changes to the car. We got going good on the outside early, Andy (Bachetti) showed me a lane out there and unfortunately he got a flat, but we started to roll the bottom very well. I almost gave the race away to Stew (Friesen) when I left the bottom trying to lap the 42, but I got right back down.” – Anthony Perrego on winning the Lightning on the Mountain

On the Move:

Andy Bachetti was the man “On the Move” during the Lightning on the Mountain 50 after getting a flat tire and restarting last to come back to a third place finish.

Jerry Higbie was the biggest mover of the race gaining 11 positions from 18th to 7th along with a trip to the rear of the field.

Biggest Loser:

Craig Hanson in the 20c was the “Biggest Loser” of the event after running very strong early, he went out of the race with heavy front suspension damage finishing in the 22nd position, a drop of 20 positions from his 2nd place starting spot.

Pre-Feature Notebook:

  • Danny Creeden, the 2016 Thunder Mountain Modified Champion has kicked off the season with a couple wins and could be unstoppable tonight.
  • Andy Bachetti, Danny Creeden, Barry White, Jeremy Smith, and Stewart Friesen were all impressive in qualifying
  • Brian Malcolm draws the pole position for the Lightning on the Mountain 50-lap Short Track Super Series event.
  • Tommy Meier had to take a provisional to get into the event, keep an eye on #3 in the feature.
  • Nick Nye has a lot of Thunder Mountain experience and is gaining ground in the modified division
  • NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series driver Stewart Friesen will be a tough contender tonight.
