The Skinny: Matt Craig took the lead on a lap 28 restart and never looked back, extending his Pro All Stars Series (PASS) South Super Late Model points lead with his fourth win in the series in 2017.
What Won the Race: Craig passed Matt Wallace on a lap 28 restart to take the lead, then waited out a red flag for rain before dominating the last 120 laps.
Winning Quote: “At the end of last year, we had some momentum built up,” said Craig. “We built some new cars, tested a good bit, found some speed, and it’s been working out for us.”

Feature Notebook: Matt Wallace starts on the pole, with Jared Fryar joining him on the front row … Wallace leads the first lap, clearing Fryar in the first turn … Roy Hayes spins in turn one on lap six, but he keeps the engine fired and the caution flag doesn’t wave … In the first 20 laps, Matt Wallace builds a lead of nearly four seconds over second-place Matt Craig … The yellow flag waves for the first time on lap 28 for a passing rain shower … Craig takes the lead on the restart, while Fryar spins in turn four to bring the caution out for a second time … A passing mist red-flags the race for 30 minutes, but the yellow flag is put back out at 9:10 P.M. … The race restarts, with Craig maintaining his lead and Wallace moving back into second position … Roy Hayes spins on the backstretch to bring out the caution on lap 58 … After being sixth-fastest in time trials and starting eighth on the re-draw, Kodie Conner moves into third on lap 94, passing Wallace for the spot … Jody Measamer slows and comes to pit road on lap 130, 20 laps shy of the finish … Tate Fogleman moves into third on lap 133 around Conner, potentially securing a spot in November’s Mason-Dixon MegaMeltdown in the process … The yellow flag waves on lap 143 as Roy Hayes spins exiting turn four … On the restart, Tate Fogleman spins, collecting Conner … Craig maintains his lead on the final restart, taking the win over Dave Farrington and Trevor Sanborn.
Pre-Feature Notebook: Tate Fogleman set the fastest time in the time trials session. However, he will start fourth after the top-ten re-draw, per the PASS rulebook … Matt Wallace won the re-draw after setting the third-fastest lap in time trials … Previous PASS Super Late Model Series winners at Southern National Motorsports Park include Jay Fogleman, Austin Thierault, Daniel Hemric, Preston Peltier, Trevor Noles, and Matt Craig … Thanks to a pair of postponements during a rainy summer in the Southeast, this is PASS South’s first event since May 5 at Caraway Speedway. Matt Craig edged out Tanner Thorson for the victory … After tonight’s event, Dave Farrington plans on traveling north to the PASS North event at Oxford Plains Speedway to complete a PASS doubleheader weekend … The top three finishers in tonight’s event will secure starting spots in the Mason-Dixon MegaMeltdown 300 at Hickory Motor Speedway, scheduled for November 18.

Qualifying Format: PASS uses a time-trial format to decide the starting lineup. Each car takes two timed laps. The top 10 will redraw to decide their starting positions.

Who to Watch For: When the PASS South Super Late Model Series visited Southern National earlier this year, Matt Craig scored the victory, leading 134 of 150 laps in the race. Eddie Fatscher has also shown speed today, finishing in the top two in all three practice sessions thus far today.
Title Fight: With three PASS South victories in 2017, Matt Craig holds a 44-point advantage over Tanner Thorson in the series points standings. Thorson is not at Southern National Motorsports Park this weekend, but Tate Fogleman is two markers behind Thorson (46 points behind Craig) in third place.
The Track: Southern National Motorsports Park opened in 1993, a 0.400-mile oval located in Lucama, North Carolina. Previous Late Model Stock track champions at Southern National include Scott Riggs, Denny Hamlin, Jamey Caudill, “Big” Jim Kelley, and Deac McCaskill. After closing in 2008, the facility re-opened in 2012 under the ownership of Michael Diaz and Jerry Brown.
Weather: Temperatures are in the mid-70s as practice begins at Southern National this afternoon, a refreshing reprieve from the heat throughout the region for most of July. It is an overcast day in Lucama, North Carolina, but no rain is projected in the forecast.
Next Series Race: The PASS South Super Late Model Series returns to action August 12, when the series heads to South Boston Speedway in South Boston, Virginia. The 150-lap PASS South race that evening highlights a racing card which includes twin-75 lappers for the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Late Models and a 15-lap Hornets feature.
