What Won the Race: Billy Melvin wins the second race of the Modifieds of Mayhem Series.
The Finish: Melvin took the lead on a bold move around the outside on a lap 42 restart. He pulled away from Jeff Letson and Donald Crocker over the final eight circuits to win.
The Skinny: Jeff Letson led the first 42 laps of the race, but Billy Melvin jumped to the outside on a late-race restart to grab the lead. Melvin led the rest of the way to find victory lane for the first time this year.
Winning Quote: “I went in the corner and let it slide and then nailed the throttle to keep it sliding to drive it like a dirt car. It was the only way I could get it to turn. It turned out to get us a win.” – Billy Melvin
Notebook: Jeff Letson started second but rocketed to the lead on the initial start.
Jim Wall went from sixth to third in the first corner with a bold move to the inside.
At lap 20, Letson and Donald Crocker run nose-to-tail for the lead, about a half-straight in front of Wall and Billy Melvin.
Caution at Lap 27 for a suspected blown engine on the 88 of Nick Martin.
Huge wreck on the Lap 28 restart. Crocker, Wall and Melvin appear to be done for the night. Melvin and Crocker have made repairs and returned to the speedway. Wall went to the pits on the rollback.
Crocker on a mission. He has quickly worked his way from 5th to 2nd. He is chasing down Letson for the race lead.
Caution at lap 36. Keith Joiner spun in turn four.
Melvin takes second from Crocker with 11 to go.
Caution at lap 42. Skylar Strength spun in turn four. Under the caution, Melvin comes to pit road leaking oil.
Melvin grabs the lead on the restart.

Car Count: Twelve cars are on the grounds today in Montgomery.
Title Fight: Points have yet to be officially tabulated, but Letson and Melvin will leave Montgomery virtually tied for the series lead. Letson won the opening race of the season, and finished second tonight. Melvin finished third in the first race and won tonight’s event. Qualifying points have yet to be figured in to the total.

Who To Watch For: Jeff Letson won the opening round of the 2016 Modifieds of Mayhem Tour, which was held right here at Montgomery. Letson was also the track Mod champion in 2015. He will be the favorite to win tonight.

The Track: Montgomery Motor Speedway officially opened its doors in 1953, making it Alabama’s oldest speedway in operation. The track measures at a half-mile, with the front stretch being 100 feet longer than the back. The corners are banked at 15 degrees (1 & 2) and 13 degrees (3 & 4).
Weather: It is 70 degrees and mostly cloudy in Alabama’s capital city today. There is a stiff 12 mph breeze blowing out of the east.
Next Series Race: The Modifieds of Mayhem will return to the track May 7 at historic Fairgrounds Speedway Nashville. The event will be the lone trip to the Music City half-mile for the series in 2016.
