What Won the Race:

A great restart gave Anthony Nocella a great outside run on Todd Patnode to get the edge at the line the next lap and be scored the leader when the caution fell one lap later.

The Skinny:

Mike Willis Jr was good early on from the pole, but Todd Patnode blew past on Lap 19 and led the middle portion of the race. Anthony Nocella quietly climbed to the front, using yellow flags to his advantage. Nocella and Patnode nearly got into trouble with 21 to go while racing for the lead while trying to lap Joel Monahan, with Nocella getting into Patnode’s left rear on the back stretch, turning Patnode into Monahan and then turning Monahan into the wall. Once Nocella got past on the decisive restart with 6 to go, Patnode struggled for grip after the final restart with 5 to go. Nocella held on for his first win of 2018 as he goes for a second straight VMRS title.

 

Feature Notebook:

-Woody Pitkat was penalized for an unapproved tire change.

– After arriving late, Rowan Pennink struggled in the race, eventually ret

 

Pre-Feature Notebook: 

-Derek Robbie paced the first practice session at 12.711 seconds.

-Jacob Perry makes first start at Monadnock in a Tour-type Modified.

-Rowan Pennink missed practice testing his SK Modified at Stafford Motor Speedway.

-Sam Rameau, Mike Willis, Derek Robbie, and Jeff Gallup are some young drivers to keep an eye on.

-Rowan Pennink leads the points after winning the season opener at Thompson. Anthony Nocella and Woody Pitkat are the two other highest of drivers in attendance today.
