Feature Notebook:

  • T.J. Potrzebowski draws the pole position for tonight’s Tommy/Tony 110 RoC Modified Tour event.
  • Jimmy Zacharias and Andy Jankowiak will start in the last row, will have to see if they can get to the front.
  • Several flat left front tires throughout tonight’s feature including, Tyler Rypkema, George Skora, and Jimmy Zacharias.
  • Tommy Catalano made contact with the turn 1 and 2 outside wall and suffered front suspension damage.
  • Big pileup late in the running collected and retired Amy Catalano, Bryan Sherwood, Jimmy Zacharias, Tyler Rypkema, and Karl Hehr.

What Won the Race:

Patrick Emerling went all 110 laps without making a pit stop and maintained track position to take home the victory in the Tommy/Tony 110 at the Lancaster National Speedway.  Although tough competitor Chuck Hossfeld stopped part way through the event to take a fresh right rear tire, he was unable to get around Emerling late in the race.

The Skinny:

“The Pirahna” T.J. Potrzebowski and “The Hotshoe” Chuck Hossfeld led the field to the start of the Tommy/Tony 110 at the Lancaster National Speedway.  Great battles for the lead happened early and often as Chuck Hossfeld, Patrick Emerling, Ryan Preece, and George Skora all led in the first 20 laps.  NASCAR Xfinity driver Ryan Preece was very impressive in his first ever appearance at Lancaster battling up front most of the race,  but fought a loose racecar at the end of the event and finished in the 9th position. A few cautions for minor spins with flat tires happened throughout the event, and then the “big one” happened with 15 laps to go.  A multi-car accident in turns 1 and 2 collected and eliminated Amy Catalano, Bryan Sherwood, Jimmy Zacharias, Tyler Rypkema, Karl Hehr, and Calvin Carroll, Carroll was the only one to continue.  Hossfeld would throw everything in the book at Patrick Emerling, but he could not overtake Emerling for the win.  Patrick Emerling scored his 6th Race of Champions Modified Tour victory of 2016 over Chuck Hossfeld, Daryl Lewis Jr., Mike Leaty, and George Skora rounding out the top 5.

Winning Quote:

“The car was feeling good and we decided not to pit there, we knew these Hoosier tires would be great, and we took a gamble and tried to go the distance and it worked out for us. We were just good enough to stay ahead of Chuck (Hossfeld) at the end, he was really coming and this was a tough one for us.  I would like to dedicate it to Tony J (Jankowiak), Tommy Druar, those are two great racers that a guy like me idolizes.”
