What Won the Race:

A strong car on both the low and high groove gave Paul Shafer Jr the opportunity to run away from the rest of the field under green.

The Finish:

1 7 Paul Shafer Jr
2 5 Casey Johnson
3 8 Billy Mohn
4 14 Austin Nason
5 39 Andrew Morrissey
6 80 Ryan Farrell
7 45 Rich Bickle Jr
8 44 Justin Mondeik -1
9 77 Jonathan Eilen -1
10 5b John Beale -1
11 52 Ricky Baker -1
12 7d John DeAngelis Jr -1
13 75 Dillon Hammond -2
14 40p Scott Patrick -6
15 9 Derek Kraus -17
16 18 Michael Ostdiek -44
17 119 Dalton Zehr -45
18 5h Jeff Holmgren Jr -47
19 13 Mikie Breiner -87
20 20 Derek Doerr -87
21 40 Curt Tillman -97

The Skinny:

Although it was Dalton Zehr who looked like he was going to take off, an alternator gone bad gave the right opportunity for Paul Shafer Jr to come from 13th and run away from Casey Johnson and Billy Mohn to score his first victory after being fast all day long.

Winning Quote:

“Finally. It’s been a little bit, huh?. Now that the first one is out of the way maybe we can get a couple.”

On the Move:

Paul Shafer Jr came from the back of the invert (13th) and through using the cone and a strong car, won the race.

Biggest Loser:

Dalton Zehr started 9th and made his way to the lead, but a mechanical problem caused him not to finish the race.

Feature Notebook:

Lap 2: Ricky Baker goes spinning through the infield, big check up but everyone appears to be fine.
Lap 3: Second caution comes out as Morrissey and Bickle make contact.  Both go to the rear.
Lap 10: Holmgren Jr leads Farrell, Johnson, Beale, and Zehr.
Lap 13: Doerr and Breiner make hard contact on the backstretch, bringing out the red flag. Farrell is the leader.
Lap 19: Johnson clears Farrell for the lead, Zehr looks for second.
Lap 40: A three way battle for the lead. Zehr on the inside of Johnson, and Shafer right behind them both. Zehr clears Johnson for the lead.
Lap 50: Johnson has slipped into the clutches of Farrel and Nason, they battle for 4th.
Lap 60: Leader Dalton Zehr has came to a stop on the track with an issue, Shafer now leads Johnson.

Paul Shafer Jr wins his first ARCA Midwest Tour race.

Qualifying Format:

Each driver will get two laps during time trials. The top 14 drivers will be locked in, the rest will need to race their way in during qualifying races.

Event Schedule:

Qualifying 5 pm

Racing 7 pm

Who to Watch For:

Casey Johnson is always fast at Jefferson Speedway no matter what type of race car he is in. He will be one to watch tonight.

Title Fight:

Austin Nason and Dan Fredrickson are separated by just one point at the top of the standings after just two races on the nine race schedule.

The Track:

Jefferson Speedway is located near Cambridge, Wisconsin. The track is 1/4 mile with different banking in 1 & 2 than in turns 3&4. This means drivers may be better on parts of the track, and the groove moves up in 3 & 4.

Weather:

Not a cloud to be found for racing today, but a nice warm 89 degrees when we start racing this evening.

Next Series Race:

The next race for the ARCA Midwest Tour will take place at Rockford Speedway on June 30.
