Bakersfield, CA – The management team of the SPEARS SRL Southwest Tour Series is proud to announce the $125,000 “Winter Showdown” for Super Late Models at Kern County Raceway Park in Bakersfield, California, February 26 – 28, 2015.
The “Winter Showdown” will not be a SPEARS Southwest Tour Series points race, but will be an open show which will be one of the richest asphalt short track events in the nation, with over $125,000 in prize money, and a $25,000.00 pay day to the winner.
“There are some great annual short track events, like the Snow Ball Derby, the Summer Showdown and the Montana 200. The supporters of this event wanted to bring a big annual short track event back to Bakersfield.” stated the SRL’s Larry Collins.
Collins and his family operated Mesa Marin Raceway for 30 seasons before closing the raceway in 2005 and then purchasing the SPEARS SRL Southwest Tour Series in 2008. For 30 years, Mesa Marin Raceway hosted the award winning October Classic, one of the biggest short track events in the nation.
“This is not a SPEARS Southwest Tour Series points race, it’s an open format, allowing Tour Cars and Super Late Models from throughout the nation to compete together at this big event.” Collins continued. “This event is all ours, as we’ve come to terms with Charlie Beard at Kern County Raceway Park for us to come in and put on the event from top to bottom. We want all the best teams to be here, this event is one of the richest races of its type in the nation.”
The event will take place over three days, with practice and tech inspections on Thursday, qualifying and qualifying events on Friday, with the 250-lap Winter Showdown on Saturday.
The 250-lap feature will have a halfway break at lap 125 for fuel and tires. Additional racing divisions for the event will be announced at a later date.
“Kern County Raceway Park is one of the finest short tracks in the nation, and we look forward to race teams and spectators coming and seeing this beautiful facility first hand during this big race weekend.” Collins added.
The inaugural $125,000 “Winter Showdown” is coming February 26, 27 and 28, 2015, to Kern County Raceway Park.
