Bakersfield, CA – The SPEARS Southwest Tour Series will close out its fourteenth season this Saturday night at The Bullring at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Heading into Saturday’s finale, Derek Thorn of Lakeport, CA carries a 92-point lead in the championship standings over Jeremy Doss of Upper Lake. If Thorn can finish twenty-fifth or better, he will become only the second driver to win more than one SPEARS Southwest Tour Series title.

 

Saturday’s SPEARS Southwest Tour Series 125-lap race will be part of the West Coast Short Track Championships at The Bullring, which will also feature the championship deciding events for the Lucas Oil Modified Series, the SRL S2 Tour Series, the USAC HPD Midget Series and the SRL Legends Tour Series. Racing starts at 5pm.

CLOSE BATTLES – Brandon White of Eureka, CA is currently third in the championship standings, just two points ahead of Greg Voigt. Jacob Gomes is in fifth just twenty five points back of Voigt and Garret Archer is sixth, just 20 points out of fifth behind Gomes. Only 61 points separate positions seven through ten, consisting of Keith Spangler, Ross Strmiska, Carlos Vieira and Tracy Bolin.

 

ROOKIE TITLE – Garret Archer will be the 2014 SPEARS Southwest Tour Series Rookie-of-the-Year. Archer, of Black Diamond, Washington scored four top four finishes in 2014, with a third place in the “Spears Manufacturing 100” at the one mile Pikes Peak International Raceway.

 

ROSTER – Twenty-eight teams are on this weekend’s roster, including thirteen rookies, four drivers making their first start of 2014 with two of those drivers making their first career start in the SPEARS Southwest Tour Series.

 

FIRST TIMERS – Andy Allen of Garden Grove and Dan O’Donnell of Oak Hills will be making their first SPEARS Southwest Tour Series starts of 2014, while, Noah Gragson of Las Vegas and Austin Reed of Mooresville, NC will be making their first ever series starts.

 

LONG HAULS – Chad Stutzman and Nick Williams will be making the long trip from their homes in Colorado Springs and Fort Collins, Colorado this weekend. It will be Stutzman’s second series start this season, while it will be Williams’ third.

 

S2 SERIES TITLE – Bakersfield’s Brandon Weaver will win the 2014 SRL S2 Tour Series championship by simply starting Saturday’s S2 main event. Weaver has nine top fives and one win in route to his current championship lead of 172 points over Johnny Butler, who is just one point ahead of Bill Waters.

 

LEGENDS CHAMPIONSHIP – A Mangini will win the 2014 SRL Legends Tour Series championship, but it is not known yet if it will be Tony or his brother Tim who will be champion. Just thirty-one points separate the Mangini brothers entering this weekend’s series finale. Brandon Weaver is third in the Legend standings.
