The newest jewel in race tracks in North Carolina, Carteret County Speedway in Cape Carteret, NC, will open the 2016 Southern Modified Race Tour schedule on April 2.
“We are pleased to announce our 2016 schedule today”, said SMRT Series Director, Randy Myers. “Bobby Watson’s Carteret Count Speedway hosted the final event of the 2015 season and I can’t think of a better way to open our 2016 season. We are always happy to be able to work with the tracks that have worked with our series in the past”, Myers said.
In addition to Carteret County Speedway’s opening event, the series will return there on October 29th. Returning to the SMRT schedule is Hickory Motor Speedway with events on July 2nd and October 1st. Anderson Motor Speedway in Anderson, SC returns on August 19th. Orange County Speedway returns for another event on October 8th. Franklin County Speedway in Callaway, VA is new to the SMRT schedule. Three other dates at tracks to be announced soon will bring the 2016 SMRT schedule to ten events.
“For many of the past twenty-eight seasons I have managed to put together a schedule for series that I have been associated with that does not conflict with other schedules and 2016 will continue that tradition. This season’s schedule has been a challenge but we have put together a good schedule at some really great tracks while giving teams the chance to explore other events if they choose when not racing with SMRT. Our brand of Modified racing and the tracks that host the series feature some of the best in open wheel modified action in the South”, Myers said.
Hoosier Racing Tires remains the “Official Tire” of the series and SUNOCO Race Fuels becomes the “Official Fuel” of SMRT. Other contingency sponsors will be announced in the near future.
