Snowball Preview a Reasonable Way to Test for Big Race

With the 52nd Annual Snowball Derby drawing ever closer, race teams across all divisions are planning their angle of attack for the most prestigious Super Late Model race in America. As always, many teams are also planning to arrive at Five Flags Speedway early to try and get a leg up, especially given the fast nature of the Derby week schedule.

The easiest and most reasonable way for teams to prepare for the big race is to participate in the Snowball Derby Preview on Saturday, November 23 at the Pensacola, Florida oval. Pit area admission is only $20 for the day and no track rental fee is required.

That day, Five Flags officials will open the gates for a full day of open practice for all divisions competing during Snowball Derby week, which runs from December 5 to December 8. This includes Super Late Models, Pro Late Models, Florida Modifieds, Pro Trucks, Outlaw Stocks, Sportsman and Pure Stocks.

The track will be open from 10 a.m. – 7 p.m. CT on Saturday, November 23 with rotating practice sessions throughout the day.

Full track services will be available all day long including, fuel, tires, and the tech station.

Once again, Five Flags Speedway is also offering a little treat for the quickest teams in each division. During the late afternoon/evening hours, when mock qualifying runs are usually made, there will be cash bonuses for the driver who sets the fastest lap in each division.

The quickest Super Late Model team will pocket $500 while the fastest from the Pro Late Models, Florida Modifieds, Pro Trucks, Outlaw Stocks, Sportsman and Pure Stocks will each collect $200.

Fans can enter the grandstands at Five Flags Speedway on Snowball Derby Preview Day for absolutely no charge.

Rig parking and tech will open on Wednesday, December 4 for Super and Pro Late Model teams. The day will also feature qualifying draw for both divisions and a free Green Flag Party in the pits featuring the band Muscogee Ridge.

Late Models will hit the track for the first time on Thursday, December 5 for a full practice day. The Pro Trucks, Sportsman, and Pure Stocks will have their feature races that night.

Friday, December 6 is the most intense day in all of short track racing. It’s qualifying day for the Snowball Derby. Also on Friday night, the Modifieds of Mayhem will crown a champion as they do battle for 75 laps in their season finale.

Saturday, December 7 is Allen Turner Snowflake 100 race day. Qualifying for the Snowflake 100 will begin at 2 p.m. CT. A 50-lap last chance race for the Snowflake 100 will immediately follow qualifying. The 50-lap last chance race for the Snowball Derby will also be held on Saturday evening at the conclusion of the last chance race for the Snowflake 100.

The green flag for the Allen Turner Snowflake 100 will wave at 7 p.m. Also on Saturday night, the Outlaw Stocks will race for 50 laps to decide who takes their Snowball Derby victory.

Sunday, December 8 is the biggest day of the year in short track racing. It’s race day for the 52nd Annual Snowball Derby. Pre-race festivities will begin at Noon CT, with the class photo for the 52nd Annual Snowball Derby being taken on the frontstretch at 12:30 and Driver introductions to follow. The green flag for the 52nd Annual Snowball Derby will wave at 2 p.m.
