Snowball Derby Pageant Will Sprout More Growth in 2020

The green flag flew over the first Snowball Derby on a cold December afternoon in 1968.  No one that day could have imagined what would happen over the next 50 plus years. More than just a race, the event has blossomed into what has become known as “The Snowball Derby Experience.”

One element of that experience that has grown as well is the Miss Snowball Derby Pageant.  Held annually two weeks prior to race week, the Miss Snowball Derby Pageant has become an event in its own right. Vicki Williams helped Five Flags Speedway Office Manager Pat Bryant get the first pageant off the ground in 2014 in a hotel meeting room.

2015 saw the Pageant re-locate to beautiful downtown Pensacola inside Tracy Goodson’s Beef O’ Brady’s Restaurant. Lisa Garvey brought her years of Pageant experience to the event and elevated it to the next level. This included a venue change in 2017 to the Historic Seville Quarter, still in downtown Pensacola. Also adding to the event was the inclusion of Claude and Melanie Duvall, whose Fast Cash ATM services have sponsored the pageant. The Duvalls also bring unmatched charisma to the Pageant.

For 2020, The Miss Snowball Derby Pageant will once again sprout more growth. This year’s pageant director will be Taylor Speranzo. Speranzo has worked behind the scenes with Lisa Garvey and Pat Bryant for several years, and they will reverse roles this year. She also may be recognized for working with Bryant on stage during the Snowball Derby Qualifying Draw Down, held each year during the Green Flag Party.

Taylor’s team will also include former Miss Snowball Derby Cam Davis, as well as former Snowball Derby winner Johanna Long Robbins.

On Thursday Night, November 19, current Miss Snowball Derby Bristal Aaron will pass the crown to a new Miss Snowball Derby. The Pageant Winner receives a $1,000 cash award, and will reign over all festivities related to the 53rd Annual Snowball Derby, scheduled from December 2-6.  There will also be cash awards to the First Runner Up, as well as the Second Runner Up. There will also be a Miss Congeniality Award. Speed 51 will once again this year be on hand to livestream the Miss Snowball Derby Pageant.
