Southern Modified Race Tour President Randy Myers announced earlier this week that the 2016 SMRT season will be coming to an early end. His full statement can be found below:

After serious consideration and discussion with our partner tracks, it is with much regret that I announce the early end to the 2016 SMRT season.

While several people have been working to find sponsorship for the Hickory Motor Speedway and Carteret County Speedway events, we have not been able to locate the sponsorship needed for Kevin and Bobby to put on the events.  The sponsorship the series provided in the past allowed the tracks to have an opportunity for the events to be financially successful and without that funding, all parties thought it would be for the best to end the season early and apply our collective resources towards finding a suitable sponsor for the 2017 season and beyond.

I want to thank Kevin Piercy, Bobby Watson, Sylvia Porter, Terry Deal, Bob Lutz and Steve Zacharias for hosting SMRT events in 2014, 2015 and 2016.  They are the core of tracks that made for a great series.  I also want to thank Dudley Phelps for his ongoing efforts to find sponsorship for the series.

I also want to take this opportunity to announce a new partnership with, a subsidiary of MotorHead Media. as the “Official Classifieds of SMRT” for 2017.  This great program will add much to the series through the tremendous exposure generated by their websites.  Watch the SMRT website, for more details on this partnership.
