The Southern Modified Race Tour (SMRT) announced Tuesday that the series’ 2016 season opener will move to Tri-County Motor Speedway in Hudson, North Carolina on Saturday, April 2. The move to Tri-County gives the track a total of two SMRT events in 2016 with the second race scheduled for June 23.
The opening event had originally been scheduled for April 1 at Carteret County Speedway (NC). The tour’s website lists a second date for Carteret, October 29, which is its penultimate event. (Editor’s Note: Carteret County officials informed Speed51.com Tuesday afternoon that the track does not have any SMRT events on its schedule for 2016).
SMRT has 10 events planned for 2016 with information for an April 23 TBA event to be announced on March 9. Races are scheduled at Kingsport Speedway (TN), Hickory Motor Speedway (NC), Anderson Motor Speedway (NC) and Franklin County Speedway (VA).
An additional October 8 event will be announced at a later date.
