Tour-Type Modified racers will have an extra opportunity to earn points and have fun to kick off the month of October. Southern Modified Racing Series officials announced on Tuesday afternoon that the series will visit the famed Hickory Motor Speedway (NC) on Saturday, October 1 for a 125-lap race.
After making the decision to take an event at Concord Speedway (NC) off of the schedule earlier this year, SMRS officials are pleased to offer racers and fans this additional date on the calendar.
“We had taken them off of the schedule at Concord for the Friday event at the North South Shootout because the logistics of running two Modified events back-to-back wasn’t ideal for our competitors,” said Renee Hackett of SMRS. “With this opportunity arising, now we can add that race we took away.
“I think it’s a pretty interesting move for the series because everyone loves Hickory. We hope to have a good car count because the Modifieds are great there.”
The race will now serve as the penultimate event of the season for the first-year Tour-Type Modified touring series. With a tight championship battle ongoing between Burt Myers and John Smith, both drivers will be given an additional chance to make or break their championship aspirations.
Only four points separate Myers and Smith entering the October 1 race at Hickory, while Burt’s Brother Jason sits 36 points back.
The season finale for Southern Modified Racing Series will take place at Caraway Speedway on Saturday, October 22.
