DeGraff OH (9/13): Shady Bowl Speedway hosted its annual Military Night Saturday. The event was free of charge to all active and retired military members. It turned out to be a cold night, but the action on the track was hot.
In late model action Josh Smith set quick time (13.606) to lead all qualifiers. The feature began with Chris Abbott pacing the field the first eight counters before giving way to Jacob Muncy. Muncy took charge the next six laps. Slowly fast qualifier Smith was making his way to the front from his eighth place starting spot. Smith took over lead on lap 16 and held it the final half of the 35 lapper to post the win. The Quincydriver has wrapped up the championship for his Smith Motorsports group. Muncy was second followed byJohn Stroble, Mark Parker and Brad Coons . Parker won the dash, with Abbott taking the heat win.
The powerful Modifieds took to the speedway next. The race got off to a rocky start as the field piled up forcing another restart. Joe Pequinot led the first two laps before giving way to Mike Carroll. Carroll held off the charges of fast qualifier (13.550) Shane Shirk until lap sixteen when Shirk put his Maplewood Tree Service backed racer out front. When the checker flew for Shirk, Carroll, Brad Williams, Pequignot and Buddy Townsend rounded out the top five. Townsend won the dash with heats going to Pequingot and Don Skaggs.
Jacob Muncy filled in for Ray Muncy and had a big night in the number 8 street stock. He set fast time (15.052) and won the 25 lap feature after passing early leader Josh Sage on lap ten. Sage was able to hold on to finish second followed by Rodney Roush, Andy Heath and Dave Sage.
Heath and Roush took heat race checkers.
New Carlisle driver Kenny George continued his dominance of the compact class. Dave Callahan led the first five laps before giving way to George in his Quick Parts backed Cavalier. The race finished with Nicholas Meade, Chris Lucas, Callahan and Josh Foltz rounding out the top five.
In the tuner class Terry Eaton Jr set fast time and won the feature in his Blade Runner backed Honda. Rodney Roush was second after leading the first seven laps before Eaton took the lead. Roush was second with Jim Massengill, Austin Eaton and Eddie Kemp rounding out the top five.
Ryan Miller was first to the checker in the Dwarf car main, as he posted his first win. Miller got by early leader Daniel Wirrick on lap 12 to lead the field to the checker. Wirrick, Jason Hitchcock, Greg Sparks and Connie Smith followed. Sparks was fast qualifier with a 14.011 lap.
This Saturday (9/20) will be the final points race. The racing will start at 7.
