SMART Modified Tour Returns to Caraway This Weekend

The SMART Modified Tour returns to the site of its season opener this weekend, Caraway Speedway, for an Independence Weekend showdown.  Some of the South’s top Modified stars will compete for 99 laps at the North Carolina facility on Saturday, July 3.

The SMART Modified Tour returns to action Saturday, July 3 at Caraway Speedway.

In a collaborative scheduling effort with Bowman Gray Stadium, this marks the SMART Modified Tour’s summer showcase, taking advantage of an off weekend for the Madhouse.  It will be the series’ lone race until the conclusion of the Bowman Gray Stadium season, at which point SMART will go on a tear of late summer and fall races to close out the 2021 season.

The first four races of the SMART Modified Tour season produced four different winners.  Matt Hirschman collected the win in the season opener at Caraway in March, while young gun Caleb Heady took the checkered flag one week later at Florence Motor Speedway.  NASCAR Cup Series competitor Ryan Preece won at South Boston Speedway, while John Smith won in the tour’s last stop at Franklin County Speedway.

Following the Franklin County win, John Smith currently leads the SMART Modified Tour standings by just two points ahead of Burt Myers.  Jason Myers sits third, with Bobby Labonte fourth and Brian Loftin fifth.

Confirmed entries for Saturday’s race at Caraway include Burt and Jason Myers, Joey Coulter, Jeremy Gerstner, James Civali, Brian Loftin, Caleb Heady, Dennis Holdren, Gary Putnam, Mike Norman, Daniel Yates and Brian Weber.  More entries will be announced by the SMART Modified Tour in the coming days.  At least 17 cars have made the trip to every SMART Modified Tour event thus far in 2021.

The SMART Modified Tour event is part of the Rusty Harpe Memorial at Caraway Speedway, one of the track’s signature events.  Along with the SMART Modifieds, there will be a 99-lap Late Model feature, along with action for 602 Modifieds and Mini Stocks.

Grandstands open at 5 p.m. ET Saturday at Caraway Speedway, with racing at 8 p.m.  For more information, fans can visit or, or follow Caraway Speedway and the SMART Modified Tour on social media.
