Lancaster, N.Y. –– The 28th Annual US Open 125 for the Ferris Mowers Race of Champions Asphalt Modified Series fueled by Sunoco at Lancaster (N.Y.) National Speedway will highlight the 28th Annual US Open, which is the traditional season ending event at the popular Western New York ½-mile. Several local competitors have had this event circled on their calendars all season.

George Skora, III of Eden, N.Y., coupled with the experience of Father – George – and his new crew chief, Mike Parks, is on the verge of becoming a new winner on the Series. Skora comes from a family that has deep roots in the Western New York racing community. His Father, George, was a championship winning Late Model racer during his driving days.

Skora has posted several strong runs throughout the season and he’s been aiming for success in the season ending events.

“We’ve run much better this season,” stated Skora. “I can’t thank my Dad and Mike (Parks) enough. They’ve really helped in getting my program tuned up and turned around. We’ve been competitive and it has been a blast to run up front with these guys. Its tough competition and you have to get used to running with these cars. It takes a lot of work. We are excited about and look forward to a great race at Lancaster and hopefully we can get our first win there. It would be a pretty awesome day.”

Skora’s best finish of the season to-date has been a 4th place finish at the “Thunder in the Hills 100” at Holland (N.Y.) International Speedway. Skora earned a track championship in the Sportsman Modifieds there in 2013 after winning the Late Model division Championship at Lake Erie Speedway in Northeast, Pa., in 2012.

The US Open will be the 12th of 14 events this season for the Series. The Series has visited Lancaster on three previous occasions in May, June and August and the current series point leader, Patrick Emerling of Orchard Park, N.Y., has won each of those events.

“It would be pretty cool to beat Patrick (Emerling) right now,” Skora offered. “He’s having a great year and if we could get one that would put us in a pretty elite category. I’m looking forward the opportunity at one of my favorite tracks.”

The 28th Annual US Open will once again be one of the major highlights of the Western New York racing season featuring the cars and stars of the Ferris Mowers Race of Champions Asphalt Modified Series fueled by Sunoco.
