Sophia, NC: Darren Hackett, promoter for the 19th Annual “John Blewett III Memorial” North South Shootout presented in memory of Charles Kepley has announced six qualifying events for the “Shootout”.
The race winner at each of six events will earn a guaranteed starting spot for the November 6th race to be held at Caraway Speedway near Asheboro, NC. Hackett has also posted bonus money for each of the events. The race leader on lap 76, Blewett’s car number, will receive a $250.00 bonus. In addition, the second-place driver on lap 76 will receive $150.00 and the third-place runner will earn a $100.00 bonus.
The first qualifier will take place on July 24th at Star Speedway in Epping, New Hampshire. The event is part of the Tri-Track Open Modified Series.
Star Promoter, Kevin Rice, spoke on behalf of the Star event. “The Tri-Track Series and Star Speedway are proud to add the North-South Shootout to our long list of bonuses for the tenth annual SBM 125. Both events have produced very memorable Modified moments in their previous editions, and 2021 is shaping up to be historic for each venue.
“The opportunity to be the first event to honor the significance of lap 76 in John Blewett’s memory is extra special, while becoming the first guaranteed starter for the 19th NSS is very meaningful in its own right.”
Three SMART Modified Tour events are also on tap as qualifiers for the “Shootout”. The SMART events will be held at Caraway Speedway on September 11th, Dominion Raceway in Woodford, VA on September 18th and Motor Mile Speedway in Radford, VA on October 2nd.
‘The SMART Tour is very excited to be a part of the North South Shootouts qualifying program. The series has had a great start to its rebirth and anytime we can spotlight its drivers to a guaranteed spot in a showcase event, is rewarding,” said SMART Tour Director, Chris Williams.
“Honoring John Blewett on lap 76 with the top 3 drivers’ bonus is fitting. John was a true competitor and drove with passion, something I believe will resonate with these drivers.”
“I want to thank Darren and his team for including a Bonus program for these teams and look forward to the events at Dominion, Caraway and Motor Mile,” Williams said.
“We are working hard to return the “John Blewett III Memorial” North-South Shootout in memory of Charles Kepley to prominence as the premier Tour Type Modified event in the south” said “Shootout’ promoter, Darren Hackett.
“The 2020 event at Caraway Speedway was one of the best Modified events I have seen anywhere, and our plans are to make the 2021 edition just as good or better. The resurgence of the SMART Modifieds in the south has helped bring much needed recognition to the division in our area and with the help of Kevin Rice in the northeast, I think we can build towards the big fields of the early shootout success”, Hackett said.
There will be a total of six qualifiers for the “Shootout” with the other events being announced in a few days.
