The first two rounds of the 2018 Show Me the Money Pro Late Model Series at Montgomery Motor Speedway have produced two very different storylines, with young gun Giovanni Bromante winning the season opener and 2017 champion Casey Roderick taking the second race. Intermixed has been the story of the championship battle, with local favorite Bobby Knox, Jr. coming away with the points lead heading into round three this Saturday.

Knox has been a model of consistency at MMS the past two seasons, finishing second and third in points during the 2016 and 2017 seasons, respectively. While happy with his performance in 2018, he hasn’t given too much thought to the points, focusing on getting his first Show Me the Money Series win since 2016.

“We’ve had some pretty good runs. I’d definitely like a win but you can’t complain about being in the points lead with a pair of top five’s. I haven’t put too much thought into the points or the championship because wins are what we go for each time out. But I’m pretty satisfied with what we’ve done so far,” Knox told

The Canton, Alabama driver believes that the No. 30 team has what they need to win, for the most part. It now comes down to putting together that complete race-winning performance.

“I definitely feel that we have what it takes, but there is always work to be done,” Knox admitted. “I think our car is very good early on in the race, we just got to get to the last 25 laps. The last race I thought we had the best car in the race, we just ended up with a flat tire early which messed us up.”

The Show Me the Money Series competition is by far the biggest obstacle for Knox. Going up against championship drivers such as Casey Roderick and Augie Grill is a challenge, but Knox is making the best of it every race.

“There and everywhere we go, we compete against the best drivers and they always seem to show up at Montgomery. Augie and Casey both are all strong wherever they go, so it’s good to race against those guys on a regular basis.”

But Knox has had enough waiting around for a great performance, heading into Saturday with even more determination than usual.

“I’m really gunning for it this weekend,” he said. “It’d definitely help out our point lead a lot too. It would be the first win of the season for us, so we’re looking forward to getting there.”

This weekend will also mark the beginning of a mid-season run at several races after a scattered schedule to start 2018. In addition to Montgomery, Knox will hit the road with his Pro Late Model to tracks like Nashville, Five Flags, and Mobile. He will also be back in Super Late Model action for select starts in the Southern Super Series.

“We’re trying to race a lot, the only reason we haven’t raced this past month is because our trailer and truck are getting a lot of work done to it and we’ve had our Super Late Model motor get sent off to get work. We’ve had a lot of down time this past month so we’re looking forward to getting back after it.”
