One starting position for the Short Track U.S Nationals at Bristol Motor Speedway has been decided.  Brandon Setzer has locked himself into the event by sweeping the CARS Tour “Duels at Dominion” Raceway on Saturday afternoon.

Setzer dominated both 75-lap features at the high-banked Dominion Raceway on Saturday, leading all 150 laps of racing.

300x250_PPV“Man, that feels awesome,” Setzer said after the second race.  “We’ve struggled a lot this year.  I thought we had a really good car at Concord (Speedway, NC), but we lost there and I feel a lot of that was me.  So to come to a new track and have a really good car was awesome.  We didn’t have that many cars, but we had some good cars. (Chase) Purdy has been fast and he was good at the Rattler.  We also had the Snowball Derby champion (Christian Eckes), so we weren’t racing against any slouches.  It was a lot of fun for sure.”

CARS Tour awarded a guaranteed starting position at the Short Track U.S. Nationals to whoever had the best average finish from both features.

At the end of both races, it was no question who had the best average finish with Setzer sweeping the day.

“That’s crazy,” said Setzer.  “We can definitely approach it different now.  It gives us a little bit of leeway if the qualifying race gets crazy, and it’s going to, so it definitely helps us for sure.”

In both races, Chase Purdy finished second to Setzer, but unfortunately for Purdy, he was nowhere close to Setzer when the checkered flag waved.

“That six car was in a whole different league,” said Purdy.  “For what we had and all of the adjustments we made throughout the day, I’m really proud of these guys at DGR.  It’s good to take a car that was probably a fifth-place car in practice and finish second with it in both races.  We’ll get them next time.”

The next CARS Tour race will be at Rougemont, North Carolina’s Orange County Speedway on Saturday, April 22.
