The Rowdy Energy Super Select Series powered by Speed51 now heads to the World Wide Technology Raceway for a Tuesday night special. With just three races remaining in the current season, the points battle is starting to get down to the wire.
The race takes place at 9:30 p.m. ET Tuesday night, and the free live broadcast can be viewed on Speed51 by clicking here.
Before the race, preview the action here on Speed51 as we set the stage for the eighth race of the season.
Rowdy Series Points Leader Missing Tuesday’s Race
The points battle will get a major shakeup after Tuesday night’s race. With the move to Tuesday for tonight’s race to allow competitors to celebrate and honor Mother’s Day, points leader Alex McCollum will not be able to compete tonight due to his commitment to the eNASCAR Coca-Cola iRacing Series.
While each driver receives a “drop” of their worst finish during the season, McCollum failed to qualify for the season opening eRattler 250. Thus, he will be credited with a last-place finish tonight in the points battle unless he is able to find a substitute driver. Each driver is allowed to utilize a sub driver once per season, provided the racer meets certain qualifications outlined in the series rules.
While the circumstances are unfortunate, this will allow the rest of the field to close the gap on the three-time race winner in the points standings.
Martinsville 300 Winner Makes Rowdy Series Debut
Late Model Stock star and reigning Valleystar Credit Union 300 winner Josh Berry is set to make his Rowdy Series debut tonight at Gateway. Berry is an accomplished sim racer in his own right, having won races in eNASCAR Saturday Night Thunder and the LeafFilter Replacement Series, while also being a former winner in the eNASCAR iRacing Series.
In the real world, Berry has recently found success in a Super Late Model. He won his first SLM race at the North/South Shootout at Hickory Motor Speedway, then followed it up by making the field in his Snowball Derby debut, qualifying sixth for the big race.
eRattler 250 Winner Falling in the Standings
Devon Morgan started the Rowdy Series season off by winning the eRattler 250, but he hasn’t been able to find victory lane in the near-two months since that event at Lanier Raceplex.
While he has slipped to fifth in the standings, it hasn’t been due to poor performance. He was running away with the lead in the race at Southern National before contact with a lapped car with less than 20 to go costed him a chance at the win. Just last week at Oxford Plains, he dominated the race and was running second late before he lost connection to the server.
At this point in the season, he will need to visit victory in two, if not all three of the final races and hope for some misfortune by the competitors in front of him if he wants a shot at the series title.
