Casey Smith’s hunt for the 2015 Southern Super Series championship got off to a strong start on March 15 at South Alabama Speedway.  The Texan scored an impressive runner-up finish in the season-opening Rattler 250.

After starting eighth, Smith slowly and methodically worked his way through the field.  He also had to survive some of the crashes, which he was able to do because he finally had some luck on his side.

“We’ve had a lot of bad luck the past few years which makes this even sweeter,” said Smith.  “I wish we could have won it.  I’d really like to win that one big race.”

In Saturday night’s Baby Rattler for the Pro Late Models, Smith started 19th and fought through some engine problems and was involved in a late-race incident that forced a 12th-place finish.

The next race for the Southern Super Series is on April 11 at the Fairgrounds Speedway Nashville (TN), where Smith plans to continue his strong start to the 2015 season.

“It makes it where we almost have to go to Nashville, and of course we love that place,” Smith said.  “Just hopefully we can keep that momentum going.”
