Wausau, WI – The State Park Speedway 2014 season comes to a close this Thursday night with the fifth annual Fighting Cancer Full Throttle 60. It also marks championship night, where season long point champions will be crowned. There’s no doubt all eyes will be on the Auto Select Super Late Model presented by C-Tech battle where MG Gajewski leads Mark Mackesy by just ten points. Mackesy looks to win his fourth championship in six years, while Gajewski looks for his first title since 2006.
“The plan is to go out and race the car to win,” says MG Gajewski, “The past few years we haven’t been as competitive and it would be really nice to win a championship again so my kids and crew can experience what it’s like.”
“We are going to approach it the same as any other night,” says Mark Mackesy, “We don’t want to do anything radical. Just try and have a good race car and avoid wrecks or any other bad luck.”
The other tight point battle heading into Thursday night is in the Snap-On Mini-Mod division where last year’s winner Brad Conant leads Michael Heidmann by six points. “Going into the last point night of the year with only six points separating first and second means I need to be on top of things,” says Brad Conant, “I need to keep my cool and drive the car smooth. Winning the title this year would mean a lot as I have decided this will be my last year running for points.”
“This is only my second full year racing and last year we finished fourth,” says Michael Heidmann, “This championship means everything to me. We worked very hard to get here and I don’t’ plan on letting it slip away, but when you buy a race car and put that helmet on, you have to decide what kind of driver you want to be and I’m going to be the driver that’s proud of everything I did on the track.”
Natalie Decker leads the Budweiser/Fabiano Brothers division by 119 points over Jeff Spatz. This would be Decker’s first title at State Park Speedway.
In the Marathon Parts City Pure Stocks division Tim Nawrocky has had a strong season and leads Michael Merriam by 93 points.
Dillon Mackesy holds an 81 point lead over George Seliger in the Green Mill Mini-Stocks presented by Motors Service and Supply division.
In the first year that the Kreager Insurance Bandolero’s are racing for points at State Park Speedway, Derek Kraus holds a 148 point lead over Luke Fenhaus.
The fifth annual Fighting Cancer Full Throttle 60 this Thursday will also help raise money for local breast cancer awareness foundations. There will be raffle prizes and also pink t-shirts for sale.
