Scott Thomas Returns to Victory Lane on Fathers Day Specatacular

June 14 was a full day activities at the New Berlin Raceway and Entertainment Complex!  Well before race cars arrived, Berlin was host the Lori’s Voice Walkathon.

Mrs. Michigan-America, Rebecca Jo Ransom was on hand for the walkathon, and later joined us back at the track for the evenings race activities. The purpose of Lori’s Voice is to provide equipment, educational resources, and medical assistance to children with muscular, neurological and other degenerative diseases and Berlin was a proud host for the event under beautiful sunny skies!

A 25-Car Classic Car show and burnout competition started the evenings activities and thrilled the fans as the cars were put on the grid!

The Enterprise Iron and Metal Sportsman took at the track and racing began. After two fantastic heat races, Randy Veldman once again found himself in the Great Clips Victory Lane for the feature after a great race with all cars involved. Veldman has made several trips to the victory lane already in 2014.

The Kalamazoo Vapor 4-cyl division featured over 20 cars and the three wide racing started from the drop of the green flag and after just one lap, there were cars covering half the race track. The race was marred by cautions and a red flag, and Hard hharger Bill Krupp was unable to return to victory lane after contact with the turn 4 wall. Jared Lyzenga, who has only raced occasionally this year, found his way through the carnage and made it to victory lane!

The Engine Pro Super Stocks were in top form on Fathers day weekend and featured many good clean-n-green battles across the 30 lap event. Former Prostock champ Brian Tillema didn’t think he’d even be able to make the call, but the car ran solid and came home with a top 5, but this week was again all about Seth Moody, who got out front and took off to win back to back features in the Super Stocks.

The Budweiser Super Late Models took to the track for their 50 lap feature to wrap up the evening. After a couple of early yellow flags, things settled in until Terry Senneker crashed hard on the front stretch, eliminating the normally hard charging #37.  Tim Devos would lead early, only to fade in the second half of the event. The race came down to a couple of late race re-starts between Scott Thomas and Brian Bergakker. Each would better each other on a restart, but on the final restart, Thomas was able to hold the outside line and hold of Bergakker by a car length to grab the feature win!
