For the first time in a few years veteran driver Dennis Schoenfeld gets set to jump behind the wheel on a regular basis in 2016. With a combination of Street Stock events on dirt and Super Late Model races on asphalt, the Arkansas native boasts a 14-race schedule for the upcoming season.
“My sponsor Advanced Medical Laboratories made it possible to add the SLM races,” Schoenfeld told Speed51.com powered by JEGS. “My sponsors Rick’s Used Auto Parts and Schoenfeld Headers stepped up more also.”
Schoenfeld kicks off his 2016 campaign in his Street Stock at Batesville Motor Speedway on March 25. That marks the first of five Super Stock races for Schoenfeld at Batesvile, where his ultimate goal is to win his family-sponsored Schoenfeld Super Stock Championship in the middle of September.
“The Schoenfeld Headers Street Stock Championship in Batesville, Arkansas is a race I am really looking forward to,” said Schoenfeld. “We have sponsored that race for 17 or 18 years. It pays $10,000 to win and we ran second in that race last year, so that one we’re looking forward to.”
As far as his Super Late Model goes, Schoenfeld’s schedule includes a heavy presence at Five Flags Speedway. He plans to compete in the full Blizzard Series as well as attempt his 10th straight Snowball Derby.
“Our sponsor is the reason we can go run some more,” said Schoenfeld. “The Blizzard races and going back to the Snowball Derby will be our biggest goal as to make the show and get back to running up front. We’ve had some bad luck the last few years, so getting it turned around is key for us.”
Schoenfeld added a few extra Super Late Model races that he particularly looks forward to. He will head to Fairgrounds Speedway Nashville (TN) for the All American 400 as well as New Smyrna Speedway (FL) for the Clyde Hart Memorial.
“Going back to the All American 400 is something I really look forward to,” said Schoenfeld, “Nashville is probably my favorite track and going back to New Smyrna to meet all the associates from Advanced Medical Labs, plus I raced there a lot back in the 90’s.”
The goal for Schoenfeld is simple, get back to running up front and winning a couple races. However, he will need to do so jumping back and forth between his Super Late Model and Super Stock.
“The biggest thing in the Super Late Model is you have to drive almost over the limit the whole time and the Super Stock you have to use a lot of finesse especially when the track dries out and gets slick.”
